Seeking some info on "Cerwin Vega"

Not being part of the "Cerwin Vega' literati, I am seeking some information about the Cerwin Vega VS-15. It's a 15-inch 3-way speaker system.

All I have turned up was a pair for sale on a Canadian website and some YouTube videos. Anyone know when they were made, MSRP and any other other good information? :scratch2:

i had the vs-120`s and vs-80`s.
if i remember right, i bought them new in 91 or 92. i paid just under $400 per speaker for the vs-120`s, and just under $200 per speaker for the vs-80`s.
i really liked the cerwin vega brand, it just suites my music and listening style.

Are you sure they're VS-15 and not VS-150?

I had a pair of VS-120's that I bought new around 1994. I paid about $400 for the pair, and I believe the VS-150 was about $600 or so.

They look just like the VS-150, with one exception. They do not have a label on the front of the enclosure (under the grille). I have found the VS-150 finished in walnut and in black, the VS-15 is in black.

I think i paid around 300-350 per speaker for the vs-120's i bought new. If i remember correctly the vs-150's were around 350-450 per speaker back then.

The VS-150's are the same as VS-15's.

Hello all , I recently aquired a Cerwin Vega LW 15 powered Sub Woofer , Apparenty lightning had hit it and killed the plate amplifier , my question is - can I simply bypass the amplifier and run it as a passive Sub Woofer ? I dont have the owner's manual , and info on the Sub is sparce at best . Any help greatly appreciated , Ty

You have a few options after checking the voice coil with an Ohm Meter:
1. You can try to repair the original plate amp
2. You can try a replacement plate amp
3. You can remove the plate amp while adding a blank panel and terminals/jacks and run passively

Lightening can do pretty much whatever it wants. We got hit and lost the A/C, Fridge, dryer, telephone chargers and a bunch of other stuff. No insurance coverage for an, "Act of God." I would suggest adding a blank panel with banana jacks/Speak-on jacks. Then run an external amp, a Crown 1502 or something similar. Good luck!

Also, please check the attached file the LW-15 plate amp schematic. (I Also have the LW-15 Owners Manual, but too large to upload here. You can PM me if need be.) +/- 63 volt rails should yield approximately 150 Watts @ 8 Ohms, almost double into 4 Ohms. We had a young troop try to troubleshoot a HV section in a TV with a Fluke DVM low voltage probe. Blew everything on the Fluke DVM mainboard- the P/S, every IC Chip & Transistor, I mean everything. Simulated lightening strike. :- D

That said, I've had some failed powered subwoofers that worked really well when I bypassed
the now-dead plate amp and used an external amp bridged to Mono to power the beast!
Best to rig a Low pass network to keep high freqs out of it.

I have VS-10s that I use for my four surround speakers. I put them in ~'93. I later removed the components and replaced them with JBL W10GTis and butt cheeks with 2425s on them using crossovers of my own design. I also painted the vinyl to match the ceiling. I had to make "stand-offs" for the grills and move the port.
