Sherwood S-8600

This weekend I came across a Sherwood S-8600 FM receiver. On the front it says "80 Watts" and "All-Silicon". It was made in Chicago, and from its looks I'd guess it dates from the late 60s. After I cleaned it up it works okay, output to the channels is a little uneven but it imporved with DeOxit and I suspect a litle more cleaning will bring it back into shape.

Anybody know anything about this model? I haven't been able to find anything online.

Regards,

Royston

Is this the FET version? I am thinking about getting it this weekend

Yes, it's fet. It's also nowhere near 80 watts per channel RMS. It's a nice receiver, but I would guess it's far closer to 15 or 20 watts RMS. It was the s-8800/8900 little brother and sound similar.

Does it have the Sherwood signature 'warm sound'? I have read about...? I want to hook up a turntable to it

40 watts per channel into 8Ω (stereo) ..........a monster for 67'

....... most likely

I want to hook up a turntable to it
......mm cartridge will work

Is this the FET version?
.......If it does they'll be in the receiver section, the manual will confirm such details

Manual has 20wpc into 8 Ohm RMS. The 80 watts is music power and the 40 watts is continuous power x 2 channels, but not RMS. By modern ratings it's a 20 watt per channel RMS receiver. It's nowhere near as powerful as my 40 watt Sherwood s-9600 integrated amp.

It does have the warm sound. I have one in my Sherwood collection. Warmer than an s-8900a, more like an s-8800 or 7200.
Edited because I forgot an a

I have an S-9500a that makes about 24 rms per channel. Prob good for about 20 watts with both driven. Had a bunch of off-value resistors on the power amp, a few noisy transistors in the tone amp and the usual assortment of bad 1960s capacitors. Works vastly better after a rehab.

Very warm. Honestly has a lot in common with my S-5500II tube integrated.
