sick Marantz 2385....

My 2385 that I've used daily for the last 10 years stopped working. No lights or power. Checked the fuse, it was fine... check'd the power switch w/VOM & didn't appear to be working correctly (the blue wires didn't connect when pushed) .... ordered and replaced the power switch & then the fuse in the back of the unit blew... i dunno maybe it's something simple but I'm reluctant to tinker with it anymore.

Appreciate if you guys could recommend someone reputable that you've been very happy with that can repair my pride & joy... If it's in NY/NJ that would be wonderful but I can also ship.

Thanks,

Tom

If it is not the switch then it is something deeper into the unit. You would have to start with removing loads off the tranny until the fuse stops popping. My first guesses would be power supply or power amp.

Consider shipping the unit if no one is near by. Don't just drop it off at the local shop. they will not have the time to really do vintage the right way. And I can' blame them - business is business.

I think the nearest to you is in north Jersey. So you pretty much will end up shipping it.

Tom,
I misunderstood you on the phone, so it's a 2385, not a 2285.
The service manual is here. It includes the Euro schematic, you'll have to register (free) to download it.

Could be the transformer. That's usually the cause of blown fuses (at least I learned that in tech school :D). And the 2385 has the big toroidal transformer, those are expensive to rebuild, but it can be done.
