Silvertone 1429 hollowbody parts?

I’m really trying to tap into the brains here that have maybe had success in tracking down hard to find knobs such as these. Here are some photos. The shafts are 1/8” “D” shafts. The knobs are 3/4” overall diameter, clear amber in color. I really just want to find something that will fit. I have spent a couple hours searching various sites and am coming up empty. I can find 1/8 but not D shaft..

Try StewMac or AllParts?

You can always install new CTS pots and use any style knobs you like.

If you are trying to keep it original, you'll have to go to Ebay and/or the guitar forums.

I think I may have found the needle in the haystack for you...Is this what you need?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Or...131864?hash=item5491f6ed98:g:S4cAAOSw~hNf3TA9

If it is pay the price & grab it now ....it may be years before you find another...Good luck!

I looked for 3 years to find an original pick guard for my 1446 that was originally my fathers guitar.
I finally found one on Reverb by doing a daily Silvertone guitar parts search.
There were plenty of reproductions but I wanted an original.
All it took was perseverance and money.

If thats not what you need search Ebay and Reverb for both Vintage Harmony & vintage Silvertone guitar knob.
You can also look for what you need at vintage guitar shows some of those old guys have boxes of stuff.
Good luck

The 1454 was the top of the line model from the winter of 1963 to 1968.
It sold for $209.95 or $1768.13 in todays dollars adjusted for inflation.
It was not a cheap crap guitar!

If you believe these guitars are crap or have any doubt that these guitars sound good or can rock take look at this...
And this

I sure hope the OP finds what he needs and shares more about his 1454.
Cheers

Original would be ideal, but it might not be possible.

Playing "Captain Obvious": Ebay?

How about GBASE and/or REVERB?

Have you considered searching round for a forum-type site dedicated to "things Silvertone, Kay, Harmony" and the like?

There used to be a pretty good (read: reliable) forum called "International Guitar Forums" that had a nice array of people with old parts hanging out. I dropped outta "activity" @ that site several years ago, before the death of the site's founder (and ace slide geetarist) Bob Brozman (d. 2013), and don't know if anyone (ahem) "picked" up where Bob left off. But you can give it a shot.

PS: And though they are "named" for a certain make and model, there's A LOT MORE VARIETY of geetar makes and models under discussion, trading, etc., at both The Les Paul Forum and the My Les Paul Forum. I used to be very active @ both circa 200-2010, and, as w/ Bob's old forum, slackedoff, but I know those two are still active b/c I still, after ~ 20 years, receive via email "alerts" about cool articles, etc. Give those forums a try as well.

Not only is that Silvertone not cheap crap, it's a darned fine guitar I'd be proud to own myself and play. It has great tone, and is easy for me to play. I had a friend with one, he let me play it on occasion when we visited and hung out. I love it. I hope you find what you need to get it back to making music again.

I bought some repro parts, but still looking for knobs that will fit. The eBay listing was only one, and I need 4. I’m kind of surprised no one is making repro knobs. Seems like they could be 3D printed at the very least. I might have a little time to spend on it this weekend. The fret board needs quite a bit of work.

Did you see if the seller had more than one knob?

yes, he said he might have another, but then the original listing sold. Price was a little more than I’d like to pay anyway.

I understand.
That model was the TOL Slvertone and was expensive. So it is a pretty rare model at the price they sold for $210 most opted to pay a little more and buy Fender or Gibson . For comparison purposes in 1967 a new Telecaster with case was $225 and a Stratacaster was $269.
So they didn't sell a lot of them and the ones they did most folks took good care of so parts will be scarce and expensive.

Just wondering did the original knobs deteriorate or just get lost over the years?
It would be a keeper if I owned it and I would hunt for the correct vintage parts if it was mine.
But I also enjoy the hunt for correct vintage parts and the satisfaction of finding the parts and putting them back to original when possible.

I have played a few and I think they are wonderful guitars very versatile as the 2 videos showed.
I like going to jams and playing gigs with guitars nobody else plays rather than being the another guy that plays a strat just like everyone else.

Its a great guitar enjoy and play the hell out of it!

I searched mouser for 1/8 shank knobs a while back and didn’t find anything.. But the other day, I tried again and these popped up. They will work for now.

After adjusting the truss rod and filing down a couple frets, it plays pretty nice! Someone raised the nut in an attempt to compensate for the bowed neck, when all they needed to do was loosen the truss rod. So, that’s something I need to address at some point. I can lower the action a bit if I replace the buggered up nut. But, it’s pretty good as is for now. 2420E94B-59F6-492F-BEAF-7D5AB8ED6831.jpeg

Those old Silvertones are dead cool. Usually made by Harmony or Kay with Dimarzio pickups. Enjoy !

Wow, don't remember the tobacco burst, just the red burst. Used to take a bus, go to neighboring city, where the Sears Department Store had EVERY guitar and amp in the catalog. Us 13 year olds never got to see a Gibson or Gretsch, that Silvertone was the dream ;)...as was a Silvertone 2/12" piggyback amp!
