SL-Q3 Trying different cartridges

I have an Sl-Q3 with the stock headshell and a AT 95 mounted . I also have an Ortofon 2M Red plug and play which is too heavy as is . I'm looking for solutions to solve the weight issue . Are all 1/2" head shells in the 10gram weight range ? The Ortofon p+p headshell alone is a 13 gram fattie .

thanks, JD

Try using the auxiliary counter weight, it may be heavy enough to solve the problem.

I should have mentioned I have that , but it interferes with the dust cover .

Some Technics counter weight are heavier than others, find the heaviest model and subsitude that for the original.

The difference may be enough to offset the Ortofon P&P cartridge weight difference.

No, I do not remember which model of Technics counter weight is the heaviest or how much it weights.

Best of luck ! :)

I made my own counter weights using magnet cups(see pic) They come in different sizes so you have different weights. I melt solder into them to get the weight, there are a couple different ways to mount the screw

Take your counterweight to your local hardware store and buy some stainless steel washers that have the same dimensions. Get some Scotch Double Sided Tape. Tape the washers to the counterweight. Tape is very strong and won't let go! Done this with my SME 3009 Improved tonearm's counterweight. Works great!!
