Small Hitachi receiver

So, a while back i found a clean SR-2000 stereo receiver in the trash and it worked fine after internal cleanup. I plan on giving it to a friend, and am seekin opinions on which speakers are best for this type of unit.

It is small, but produces a clean 25WPC at 8 ohms (0.08% thd) via one STK463 dual amplifier chip.

Nothing spectacular, but it does sound okay with nice speakers. Tuner isn't bad either.

But, 25WPC means just that. The supply rails are 32V and the filter capacitance is only 5600uF per side so I am looking at a speaker ~~96dB/1w/1m or better and budget for her is roughly 150 dollars new or used.

Smaller cabinet size the better. I'd give her a set of speakers but all of mine are less sensitive.

Thoughts?

I have a Hitachi SR-703 and SR-903. Both are nice! The 903 is actually really nice! A pair of Baby Advents would go nice with the 2000. Minimus 7's would be good. Some old Realistic Nova's would go nicely and can be had cheap!

Mine is a Class-AB, not class G like the sr-903 is.

It is sufficient enough for a bedroom system; maybe the small Insignias I have are a match.

This is a neat little unit. Want a pic? It has " Vector Tuning " ala the Kenwood KR-710 and 720, where the dial pointer utilizes little LED arrows to help in fine tuning.

Maybe I'm getting out of hand here but something tells me to rip it apart again and tweak/DIY something.... I checked the supply rails for the chip and am getting a steady 32V per channel, the schematic for the STk calls for 38/38 Maximum.... This one uses fixed biasing resistors which I may change out to raise the bias a tad....the heatsink is decent and doesn't get real warm.

Also, I plan on repurposing the tape output rca jacks as pre-outs just for kicks.
