Two different Goodwills, two different small speakers, under $100 total

Walnut A/D/S L400-look and sound great, way above expectation, though A/D/S expectations were high. Had to clean them up a bit but looking grand now.

Realistic Walnut Minimus 7's-for all intents and purposes NOS-not a nick or scuff and they sound great. They'll replace my bench speakers--a rough pair of Black Minimus 7's, one with a recently blown tweeter.

Of course the A/D/S blow away the 7's but they both serve a beautiful, yet small purpose.

In the background, the not lovely black Minimus 7's and another pair of not so lovely looking 4 ohm Canton GL 260's--quite possibly the best sounding of the three, though the A/D/S give them a run for the money.

And yes, the Sansui 771 came from goodwill as well. Needed lots of cleaning, now I have to delve inside to update it and change the bulbs. Cleaned up really nicely. Only known issue-the FM Muting switch is not working-static between the stations whether pushed or not.

Wanted to share the love. I'm a sucker for a pretty face with a sound worth smiling about.

I picked up a pair of Pinnacle PN5+ speakers at a local thrift over a year ago. I am now a fan of small speakers

Good finds! Minimus 7's always surprise me, and ADS is one of my favorite speaker brands.
Check the Sansui for corrosive glue and fusable resistors!!

If you can find 8's the RS catalogue says they go down to 40 or 50HZ. I have never seen a pair for sale myself.

Love my Canton GL-260,I cant say enough good things 'bout them & I regularly rave about them here.
As for aesthetics they're pretty easy to repaint for an appearance upgrade to match their excellent sound quality.
I repainted mine OD green to match my Corsair C-70 PC case.

And the Canton AS85-SC subwoofer (visible top photo / lower left) just takes the SQ up a notch further...

Anyhow congrats on the recent scores

Those look nice painted! Might have to pull out the spray cans and see what I have. The white on mine is yellowed and the Canton badge is white, so maybe I'll have to go with black and silver. I can sandblast the white plastic housing around the speaker connections to get the paint to stick...Oh great. Another audio-related project! :')

Not surprised you like the Cantons, the Plus S is in my opinion the best of the Minimus 7 look-a- likes.

I certainly will, sounds fun. They look just like the Solo 103’s but the driver has a black cone instead of the copper cloth surround cream cones of the early 103’s. I get home on the 8th.
I also have a pair of very early RS speakers that came with the 103 driver. These are interesting because the sealed cabinets are .31 cu ft and just have an RS logo on the grills which are removable (Velcro). These are definitely early RS factory speakers made in Japan. I had thought about adding a port but the volume is much larger than the volume of Fostexs suggested BR cab plans. I have yet to hook them up as well.
On a different note I recently picked up a pair of these Euro/Japan only Minimus 21’s, much different than the Minimus 21’s offered in the US. I was planning on posting a thread on these when I dig into them. I have posted about this model before asking for info on tweeter diaphragms for an acquaintance, I finally scored my own. Both woofers are 4’s and active. The crossover is rather complex relative to most other small speakers, (two caps) offered by RS. These are only 9in tall and about 4in deep.

Taking it up a notch. AK'er hrtattckcity is selling a Realistic sub designed to go with their Minimus speakers. I have decided to purchase it-for science- to see if the augmented bass is a valued addition to the small speaker experience. Will report back on my experience.

Ran several radio shack speakers including the Minimus 7's with the Canton Plus C passive subwoofer, sounded awesome. My son is currently enjoying the Plus C with its intended partners the Plus S and it sounds even better as expected. I think you'll like the Minimus 7's much better with the bottom octave filled in.
