So my Daughter asked me for a setup for her room. Please advise.

I set my daughter up with a Sansui AU-G99X, pioneer CD player, and RSL Elan speakers when she was around 14. She played the heck out of it.

That said, you have a nice budget. Look at the Yamaha A-S501 amp. Maybe look on craigslist for some ADS, JBL, or other speakers.

Jamo Cornet 40? There are just so many speakers out there. Look for something with a decent dome tweeter.

I don't have any confidence that a new amp or receiver is going to hold up over a long period of time, or be repairable if it's even worth it. And the appearance may leave much to be desired over time.
A "fully" restored (insert 50 watt vintage receiver of choice here) might. The Pioneer SX-780 comes to mind. A nice sounding pretty little unit with bouncing needles and good name recognition. She may figure that out.
And a pair of good sounding Dynaco speakers would probably fit into the family room later in life as well.
It would be way cool for her to have a nice stereo that follows her through life from the age of ten.

Go hard or go home!

I gave both my boys each large floorstanders, JBL subwoofers (1 each, 150 and 100W units) and pretty powerful bluetooth, remote control ClassD amps (cheap as chips and indestructible). My son also wanted a CD player to play his "relaxation" music when going to sleep, when they weren't having "extreme subwoofer competitions"...

My theory was if I gave them really loud and powerful stuff, they'd stay away from my gear when I wasn't around. (like I did when I was young with my Dad's HiFi) It's worked so far.

Latest is a sub bass shaker each to attach to their bed slats for extra impact. Reminds me I need to install them.

my twenty yr old just asked a couple weeks ago
he's had access to piles of gear here for yrs and never showed an interest.
then he went record shopping with a friend ... the friend told him he had to try vinyl.
he bought some rap album
he has his pick of stuff but he took a small luxman amp, a tehcnics tt, a 10" nuance sub and minimus 7's
he could have other speakers but he likes the minumus and the way they fit his desk
he has since bought more vinyl.
thankfully our work hours clash so he has his loud time when i am not home :D

at least he has finally shown an interest ,and puts down his "Beats" sometimes
eventually he will figure out to use the sound dynamics 15s, that he currently uses as end tables in his room

Those little Minimus 7's mated with a sub can make a pretty durn nice sounding system. Ya gotta set the crossover fairly high, though.

I like the Parasound Z-series components, small footprint, good build quality. Z-amp is 45wpc into 8 ohms, 60wpc into 4 ohms, and bridgeable, for 90 watts mono. Zpre3 has a remote and headphone jack. For speakers? Too many options! If you want new, the Polk Audio RTiA3 bookshelf speakers are a good buy, in black or cherry wood veneer. The Parasound/Polk combo would be just slightly over your budget, at about $1100, but you'd have the factory warranties, should it be necessary.

Having your daughter interested in vintage gear is awesome. Have her help you pick it out. My oldest son, 21, started with some not-so-nice gear. Today, I have him running a Kenwood Supreme Model 500, Boston Acoustics A400, and a Dual 1229. It will be a fun journey for you both.

Been down this road more than once. In my experience this is an opportunity to foster a lifelong appreciation for music and gear.

Vintage gear is relatively inexpensive and readily available but unfortunately reliability can be an issue. A kid with a broken toy is not a happy kid and they will quickly loose interest.

New gear can be expensive......but it doesn't have to.

Many manufacturers have new 2 channel receivers for $200 - $300, many will have built in bluetooth for streaming from a phone/iPod/laptop. With the huge libraries available on Pandora/Spotify/Tidal a CD player is almost unnecessary. Add a nice set of bookshelf speakers for $200 or so and she will be all set.

Crutchfield.com is an excellent resource with a great selection, competitive pricing and top notch sales and after sale support. I am not associated or affiliated with Crutchfield beyond being a satisfied customer with multiple purchases over a 25 year period, never disappointed.

I don't get why people want to pay for stuff like Pandora when you can simply stream all kinds of stuff directly off of the internet for free. It makes no sense. You can also just get a Turtle Beach AudioTron that can plug right into an amplifier so that there is no need to stream wirelessly from a phone. Probably better quality audio as well.

Umm Pandora is free. Yes, you can upgrade to no ads but the basic app is free.

Pandora is quick, easy, satisfying and I find it well worth the $5/month for premium. I have a slew of genre specific stations that I've been tweaking for years and I find it's just about perfect. Plus, I can get it in my car, or virtually any device that can download the app.

The recommendation was made considering we are talking about a 10 year old child.

She most likely has access to a laptop or tablet and maybe even has her own phone so using a device she is already familiar with, and probably plays music on already, only makes sense.

Depends on what you like. Same as saying, "I don't know why people buy LPs when you can stream it on the internet for free."

Probably better quality audio as well.
Probably?!? :dunno:

Omg you so right. I remember when I was always told stay way from the music. Lol.

my dad didn’t went to me playing with his stuff. Lol

I set my daughter up with new stuff. No dirty pots or rotting foam or worry. I got her a PS Audio Sprout and some Audioengine P4 speakers.
I second this idea. No old junk to start going bad. Sprout100 and a pair of ELAC Debut or UniFi speakers and she's good to go.
