So...who's planning on coming?

I'll be there - but only a day trip Saturday :(

On the plus side I'm bringing a newbie to break in, and I'll have a dedicated driver :D

Pete

I am going with a friend, we have a bud who is out of country on business so we have his home to crash in to keep expense down.

We look forward to seeing everyone. Don't forget to book your room at the AK rate. Only one more day.

Burning in some more gear at the moment for the show. Dark Side of the Moon live, think I will be playing this toward the end of the each day, hope the volume police don't mind :)

Cheers,
Ian

Volume police? You should have heard us in the Tyler acoustics room last time, he let us crank it after hours. :smoke:

I've never been to an AKFEST before but am planning on attending with a friend this year. As we will be driving in from Ohio and are not staying overnight could anyone comment as to whether either Saturday or Sunday would be a better day to attend? I was wondering if all the rooms will be fully set up when the show opens on Saturday or if demonstrators will be trickling in only to be fully set up later in the day? Conversely, I was wondering if demonstrators start breaking down early on Sunday?

If you could only attend one day, what would be the best time to arrive to hear the maximum amount of stuff or does it even matter?

Our exhibitors set up the day before and are generally ready to go first thing Sat morning.

on the off-chance that my current amplification plan for our listening room isn't going to work (the PC5002M is being a bit noisy right now), is there anyone that might be willing to lend us a somewhat high-current 250+ Wpc amp that's totally stable into 4 Ohms? multiple beers will be given in exchange

I'll have something you can borrow that will do the job if stuck.

Cheers,
Ian

I see Grant made you an offer, but along with your toys I could bring either a ElectroVoice AP2600 or my Tapco J1400.. I've run the Tapco down to around 2 ohm before with no problem, so a 4ohm load in it is just getting started..

Here's a review on the Tapco.. 450w @ 4ohms. http://www.proaudioreview.com/article/412

This is what I had planned on using to do my own personal test drive with, but it's too much work for me with all I have to get done, so I was just happy with listening when I made the pick up..

(I'm working on a case of beers :p: )

Chris, if you want to bring that Classe' CA-400 of mine, you can if you want?

As far as any beer goes, sorry, I don't consume the alcohol related beverages any longer, but you can buy me a good meal, which I prefer much more anyway!

usher be-718

I will attend Sunday. This will be my first AK Fest. I'm hoping someone brings the usher be-718 speakers so I can audition. Regards from the shores of lake erie

I got a question about the specs on those speakers Ian...

On yours, it lists different wattages depending on SS or on tube..

I don't understand why you can use a 10w tube amp, yet you need a min of 20w of ss amp? Should be no difference. A watt is a watt. so a 10w ss amp will turn on the speakers of if a 10w tube amp will...

I think I can understand though why you would want a more powerful SS amp than a tube amp though.. A SS amp will clip at a lower wattage output than the tube amp will, or at least will put out a worse type of clip at the same output..

Why a 10w difference rating though? I could never bring myself to run a pair of 85bd speakers with that little of wattage anyway, just not much overhead.. and is overhead the only reason you have the different rating between SS and Tube?

good god man, i didn't even think of that! and the Classe's literally sitting only ten feet away from my Yamaha. not sure i'd have felt comfortable asking anyway if i had thought of it. are you sure? we'd take extra good care of it at all times, of course.

i'm going up to Scott's on Thursday night to bring my gear and your amp. i've been shotgunning new transistors into the PC5002M and as of last night did manage to get the noise floor noticeably lower, so i want to test it out first on his 4.5's - i'll make the call then i guess.

and thanks a lot for the offers, Ian and James. however, Retro's is hard to turn down since I have his amp already!
