Something is really wrong here in this forum.... I think.

10s of millions sold and still in service gets lots of threads, whereas, something that very, very few have should not. Get it? Well, I guess not. You think filters should result in more search results. You are a sponsor not a math major, right? What do you sponsor? I'm here for knowledge and understanding, and karmaraderie. What are you here for? If you can't answer my searchable database question or meaningfully add to the conversation, then why would you want to make snide, uncalled for remarks and assumptions about things you obviously don't have knowledge about?. You are living up to your self-given description.

If searching here, you can choose to have results by thread, rather than by post. That way, you'll get 20 pages of threads about Dual, rather than 20 pages of posts covering 3 or 4 popular threads.
Chip

Right, Chip, but that doesn't explain the question at hand.. I'm not sure if you read all of these posts, but searching on "posts" not threads (which there should be more of than threads) with keywords Dual, Thorens, Pioneer, Technics, and even Sota, max out at no more than 20 pages worth, or approximately 380 posts. Many of these posts are in the same threads. They all seem to be recent posts, too. The question isn't how to search. The question is when you search on a brand name like Dual in posts, why do you get such a small number of results.

Filters are a way of narrowing OR broadening your search. Number of results is commensurate with number of posts relevant to your search terms AND filters.

Not sure what your problem is ... I got 20 pages with 500 separate THREADS listed, back to the dawn of time.

- Advanced search
- Search threads and posts
- Search "dual"
- Sort by most replies
- Show as threads

As with most anything computer related, guess you gotta know the secret handshake ... <G>

PS ... wonder if it might be a non-subscriber thang? >

Do your search from the Home Page to get all sub forums
Search thread titles only
pick the dates you want like 2002- 2003 search #1 2003-2004 search #2 and so forth

You only get 20 pages of hits in the descending time posted order and if you fill it up with every Duel comment you will have ver little to read,

You saying I can't rant and stomp my feet just because I'm willing to listen and learn??

Be interesting to log out and try a search as a guest, but Chrome logs me in automatically when I hit the site, and not sure I'd know how to turn that off without screwing anything else up.

PS ... just did a search on "bacon" and only got eight pages ... I KNOW that ain't right!

BACON!!

No, the more keywords you enter the less results you will get. That's just the simple math of database searching. You cannot expand your results by adding keywords to your search. Entering a single keyword should get the most.

Lol! Love it....

Ya, it sure seems like 20 pages is the magic number. There should be way more, but that seems to be a limit.

Curious, skizo.... what did you search on? I am thinking that a very popular subject would have mostly recent dates on those 20 pages, wereas, a not so popular subject might have earlier dates... back to the beginning of time. The member status thing crossed my mind, too.

Clearly you did not understand my post or you just want to argue/troll. My post is correct and undeniable. Perhaps you stumbled on the word commensurate.
As I said - but will put differently - The words and filters used in a search dictate the search results, period. And that is the simple math of database searching.
Carry on AJ_;)

I could have sworn you said, "Filters are a way of narrowing OR broadening your search." .... or something commensurate. It's ok to be wrong. We do learn that way. If you mean less filters vs more filters, then I understand, but it didn't come across that way. Would rather not argue, but will stick to the point.
