Sometimes defiance is good for the soul!!

57 year old here......2 illness' messing with my body....been in chronic pain for 27 years.
An incurable autoimmune disorder and a progressive neuropathy.....

Grew up (on farm) riding mini bikes and then motorcycles. Sold my last bike in 1981 to help fund university.
Haven't ridden much since.

Got the itch last summer in a big way and in Fall I sat my lovely bride of 32 years down and asked her to listen to my story. She could call me nuts after I got it out. But I wanted to defy my illness and get a little fun riding in....maybe a season....maybe 10....don't know!

Well to my surprise she said, "Honey you gotta live!!" .....gotta love her!!!!

So I purchased a lovely used 1 owner Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT
....put 800 k's on it in fall before the season ended

Was surprised how quickly the riding chops came back and over the winter begun hankering for a bigger bike.

End of the story is this - last week I picked up a brand new, never registered left over 2014 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Nomad ABS SE.....drove a couple of Provinces over to get it but I am a pretty happy guy!

Bike rides like a dream.....I call it my "Barker Lounger" on 2 wheels.

Thanks for sharing in my defiance.

Nice ride!

I hear you on the autoimmune thing as I have Crohn's for over 30 years and am the same age. Was diagnosed 25 yrs ago when I got really sick. Refused steroids and have used a diet since for drug free and pretty good life.

Macrobiotic type diet (Dr. Heal Thyself article in about Sept 82 issue of Life magazine) is what I essentially found worked. Recently since discovered Lectin's (produced by plants we eat) and there affect's on some for helping with pain etc. and by not eating high Lectin foods I have gotten rid of all my older age common pains where a Dr. would say you need a knee operation etc. I had already given up some of the main high Lectin foods so it wasn't as hard to change as some would find. Feel young again! May be well worth a try for you , but you can't cheat even a bit!

Thanks fellow Manitoban!!

Our bodies are complex entities aren't they!!!
Glad you're feeling pretty good overall :)

Why not....

Every second is slip sliding away !!!

Hey Dj,

I wish I could ride everyday (or at least more often) but as I wrote in my initial post I have .....

"2 illness' messing with my body....been in chronic pain for 27 years.
An incurable autoimmune disorder and a progressive neuropathy....."

But when the pain levels are down and the weather cooperates....I get out for a spin! :)

Because this is a Photo Bucket destroyed thread here is what the "beast' looks like...

I wish I had one of those three wheelers with a V-dub engine to drive down the pacific coast, but that’s a nice bike you got their. I wish you all the health in the world. Happiness is the best healer...

Enjoy....
