Sonic Solution Clairty Caps- What do you reckon?

The caps talked about in the video are non-polar and made for speaker crossovers, not electrolytic, for filtering or bypass.

I've seen these but haven't used them. Caps tend to be microphonic and this lends support to that. Some of the best microphones are special capacitors, suspended in a mount with a charge applied. This also lends some credence to my theory (untested by me) that all crossover components should be isolated from the energy produced by the speakers. A coil and magnetic field that move, relative to each other, induce voltage and this can easily add harshness to the sound of a speaker system. Caps do lend some sound, but which are selected depends on the application. An amp used for music reproduction is different from one used for an instrument, like a guitar amp. One of my guitar amps came with yellow Astron non-polar coupling and tone caps and they sound completely different from the Panasonic caps I recently installed. Mallory 150 caps are more similar in sound to the yellow Astrons and and Panasonic sound hard & lifeless in that application. I wouldn't hesitate to use them in an amp that's supposed to be neutral, though.

I will continue to use my Orange Drops and Lemon Drops. The price is right and they work just fine. However, everyone is entitled to their decision.

I wouldn't pontificate on a cap's use until I understood more about the circuit it would be used in. Too many unknown variables.....

Cheers,

David
