Sony 730es, anyone have one of these?

Picked this up at a garage sale. It appears in great shape.

I'm trying to figure out the presets and other features.

Anyone know how they work?
Or possibly a users manual?
(No luck on hifiengine.)

I had one, a very nice tuner and a very good find IMO. I have most Sony manuals from that era except that one, sorry.

Yes to both... I own one, also have the owner's and service manuals. May have pdf's, not sure but I definitely have the originals.

Drop me a PM with your email address, I will get it sent out by the weekend.

John

John,
PM sent.

I did try the Sony site. No manual there.

I had been looking for a good tuner with the right look to go with some other gear I have. Not a perfect match but...

Maybe the tuner can go on the bottom or side by side.

Yeah, you're bridging a good decade of design gap there, not to mention the jump from oak to fake rosewood. Could temporarily replace those sides with ones made to match the other two, then rearrange the stack.

I have a slightly smaller version of that mismatch but in my case the tuner fits perfectly and it's my older 3BX that is out of place:

I got your PM, will check my files tonight.

That thing is crap! I'll take it off your hands, though, just to be nice! :D

Seriously, I have four sony tuners - the ST-5000F, ST-A6B, ST-J75 and the little XDR yadayada. Sony knew what it was doing with FM. The 730ES is one of two Sonys I would love to get my hands on; the other is the rare ST-A7B.

Let us know what you think of it!

just hooked up one

and was looking for operation instructions as well. Test driving a Luxman LV-105 on a pair of Time Windows. Needed a tuner if this going to be the next set-up. This tuner is minus the wood sides.

Just joined the Sony 730 ES club today. What a find...I'm sitting on a few very well regarded tuners and this Sony is right up there. Have it playing directly into my TA-N77ES as I type this.

John, I'm going to send a PM in hopes that you'll be so kind as to forward the manuals as well. TIA. :thmbsp:

I have one. Nice tuner. The signal strength indicator does not work on FM on mine but does on AM. Anyone with a service manual with an idea what could be the problem? Suspect a component is faulty, but I do get a very clear reception with no interference so I know the tuner is performing, just the meter shows a row of dots ..... in FM mode.

Owner's manual sent... haven't scanned the service manual yet.

Great tuner, isn't it?

John

Yes it is a great tuner. I have a Pioneer F-26, been doing an A/B comparo. Both exceed the quality of the broadcast medium and the Sony is right there with the F-26.

Thanks again for the manual. :thmbsp:

I've one also, feeding a TAE 80ES. Perfect match. Now need to find the remote for the pre-amp and it can control both. I have a good example but a great one. The first Sony ST-5000f sounds best.
