ok so I have owned my sony apm-77w's since 84' or so. born in 1970 I guess I was really lucky to get my hands on these speakers which were given to my father at some electronic show he was helping hauling and carting for. I took them over as soon as he brought them into the house with their matching rolling metal stands sans grills. I rocked them through high school and beyond and they sufferred the inevitable fate of these...woofer disintegration. with their 4 magnet design they still functioned admirably albeit lacking some lower end extension and detail. We have rocked these at our piano shop for almost 15 years now and They see their share of rap and hiphop as well as jazz/fusion to whatever else. I was perusing ebay and saw a single kicker L5 blown sub for sale and asked him for the surround dimensions and was told they were almost exactly what I needed for my Sony's. With his reply he responded that if all I needed were the surrounds he could send me 2 for $20 shipped. a few days later I had the woofers out and was gluing the stiffer rubber surround on with player piano plastic glue. I decided to go with this flexible, durable glue because I have some experience using it and I had plenty below my bench in the shop. Its been about 2-3 weeks now and I must say that this is the best these speakers have sounded in 10 years and although not the prettiest repair it was fast and effective and it seems as if the surrounds are slowing breaking in and sounding better daily. for 25 year old square aluminum honeycomb 3 way speakers these sound rather neutral and revealing and still astound me to this day. I am now thinking of putting a surround system together with these as my mains but it is not so easy to find remaining pairs in this line-up. I did just manage to score a new in box tweeter on ebay from a apm-66es which I plan to use in a custom MTM center channel I will piece together in time. any help with sony apm speaker pairs, singles or drivers would be much appreciated. thanks again
