Posting this for the benefit of those that experience the same issue and take way to long to solve the problem.
I bought Sony CDP CX455 400 disk CD player to go along with a Sony 300 disk changer I already owned.
I was told it was working fine by the previous owner. And I have to say it worked great for me until I tried to load over 200 disks. A loud grinding noise was the result. Upon investigation I thought the belts were the issue. New belts ordered, endless wait for their arrival and after reloading the player l was disappointed to hear that same grinding noise again.
Removed and replaced the disks several times to no avail. Now a long time before I had thought about a possible cause that I put out of my mind. What if loading the disks sequentially resulted in too much weight on one side of the carousel.
How likely would it be that weight distribution. Well finally tonight I reloaded all the disks in every odd # slot and only filling in the even # number slots after all the odds were completely filled.
KISS - Keep it simple stupid rule applies. The player is loading and playing ALL the disks. My fingers are still crossed but so far so good.
An ODD solution if I do say so myself!! Sorry about that line!
