i have a sony dvp655p dvd/cd 5 disc changer on the back of the unit next to componet video out there is a three position switch with selectable,interlaced,and progressive, i am mainly going to be using this for audio is there a certain setting i should have this on ?

I think that's a video-only circuit. It determines the output to the display and refers to how the horizontal lines of resolution are fed. Interlaced = the image is scanned twice; every other line then the "skipped" ones on the second pass. Progressive = the image is scanned once, from top to bottom showing every line. Generally speaking Progressive will give the smoother image. If you are using it for audio only I would ignore it.
