Sony Portables! show em off

Not my image, but I have this:
d25s.jpg

I have the same model, D-25 from Dec. 1989. Love it :thmbsp:

hmmmmmm

The black one, I have had for many years. It JUST stopped working this week.
The hold switch seems to have broken on "hold off".
It really is a performer.
The beige one was my daughter's before the iPod.
Now I use it. It is pretty good.

There is one like the second portable CD player in my local thrift right now !!!

No, I'm pretty sure it's the same as mine, only in black and chrome.

Hard to tell. Here is a TR-911.
http://radio.gort.dk/page083.htm

It's the one that Celt has. If you look at the big knob on the right of the 911, the knob has a large X shape on it. However on the 1000w that celt has, the knob has a smaller round knob in the center. If you look at the radio in the vid, you can clearly make out that it's the round 1000w knob, and not the X pattern from the 911.

I noticed that, it also looks like a black tuner. Don't think the TR-1000 was out at the time of that 1965 scene. Damn Hollywood. Some of the radio broadcasting equipment is the 1970's.

My Sony.
I sometimes listen to it at work. Has a flip out hanger loop on the back.

Here's a curb-find Sony ICF-38 that I've begun to use quite a bit around the house and outside. I found an open tracing at the detector. After a small amount of clean up, a jumper and fresh batteries, it was good to go. Has good sound quality with its 3.5" speaker, decent sensitivity and very good selectivity. Runs on 4 AA's or internal AC supply.

This isn't my picture but I've had a D5 like this since it was new in 1985. It still works fairly well.

here's some of mine...

Here are 2 of mine, though I have more, just not available for photos at the moment...

My D555 - Bought new in '91 or '92 Can't remember exactly, but I think it was '92. I have the Remote eye and wireless remote for it also. I have the original box and manual for it too. I bought the POC-MZ1 fiber optical cable later in life to connect to my original MZ-1 Minidisc recorder. I have that in storage at the moment with the original box and carry case and everything also.

EDIT: Sorry for the crappy iPhone photos. It's all I got for pics right now.

Anyways My D-555

And with my N510 minidisc.

I have a bunch of other sony portables that I will dig out over the next little while and add to this thread when I have them photoworthy.

Just thought I would post these while they were available for posing.

Cheers

I also have the shoulder strap which I wore around my neck the day I bought it just to say "Hey Honey, check out my portable unit!!!!"

Takes 6 C batteries and you will be lucky to get 5 CDs played off of those 6 batteries. I have mine plugged in with a power supply.

I too have an affinity towards the Sony Portables.

Warrgo - A friend in high school used to take 2 broken Sony WM-F100III's he had bought for a few dollars and made one that worked. I thought he was a god. I don't think I could even do that today. It was about the tiniest thing I had seen at the time. Now we have MP3 Players that are the size of a quarter.

got the same black one (D-11), stopped working a few months ago :D

Using a D22 on battery right now.

This is the only portable Sony equipment that I have. It's my old, half shot-in-the-ass Sony TC-222-A. Many great crank calls recorded on this guy back in the day :D.

The nice brushed aluminum trim fell off and got lost during a late night jam session many years ago. I was holding it up to a microphone and playing back some effects while bumping the reels to make it sound wobbly (this is all going on while the rest of the band is playing some spaced out Pink Floyd type jam). It slipped out of my hands and hit the concrete floor so hard that all of the trim popped off and scattered around the room. The cover broke and the impact left a gaping hole in the back of the case but it still worked fine! The jam sounded really cool, too :drunk:.

It still works today but the rewind and fast forward are a little wonky. I replaced it with a UHER 4000 Report for portable recording (I try not to drop that one).

I have a WM-20 which was the last in a series of Walkmans.

img_wm-20.jpg

My brother used to have the very first Walkman, the TPS-L2.

I still have an MD Walkman, but I'm too lazy to dig it out.

Also, this qualifies as a vintage portable...

This circa 1973 TC-133CS was a gift from a friend, from his father's legacy. Very nice unit with decent sound quality, still works fine. I love looking at it, the speakers clip onto the main unit and there's a carry handle.

Here are my 2 Sony portables... A D5 portable CD (from 1985 or so) with a EBP-9LC battery case (along with MDR-V6 phones), and a D35 Discman from 1991 or so. Both were purchased new back in the day and are in mint condition...

I wasnt sure if this would fit the bill or not, But it is a portable, Back in the day they called it a boombox or something like that though, This thing actually sounded pretty nice to be honest with you. It even had jacks in the back so i could hook it up to my old Receivers i had, This is actually a (web pic,) though. I actually still see them in really nice shape for a descent price these days too.

Still have a Sony Walkman DD I bought new in 1982-case, headphones, manual, etc. Still plays and sounds pretty good. May have been a second generation or so-I remember the drives in the originals didn't last long.
