Sony PS-X800 Question!!!!

Hello,
I been looking at getting a Sony ps-x800.
I been wondering how do you adjust the tonearm drop in point?
I have a Sony PS-X600, and I know were to adjust the drop in point its
right next to the tonearm the rubber part lift that up. Turn right for
inward and left for outward and that adjust 12 inch and 7 inch, but
how do you do it for the PS-800?
I looked at the manual and can't find it....
Found this guy on YouTube talking about his Sony PS-X555ES and he says its on the back to adjust it.
Is the same for the PS-x 800?

Yes and have been reading through it. In the px-600 manual its easy to find, but I am not seeing it in ps-800 manual.
 
Sorry for reactivation of this old thread. Having the same problem here, tonearm drop point is 0,5 mm too far out. Nothing changed after replacing the 2 belts. I could not find any relevant info regarding this issue in the SM, too. Any ideas how to adjust the drop point in a Sony PS-X800?
 
Hey take a picture of your turntable backside. If it is not there then look underneath the turntable. Please let us know there must be a way, and I really want to know
 
Go to vinylengine and check out the service manual for the ps-fl77. See page 16. They have different tonearms/headshells, but the linear biotracer unit should be similar if not identical.
 
No such thing like an adjustment screw here. I tried to move the arm position board a bit, no change. This TT is a nightmare.
 
Strange you think if they had it on the 600 they would have it on the 800. I'm about to get a 555es. On the 600 it looks like a blue screw. On the 555 they supplied a key that had a flathead at the end of it. One cool thing is when you adjust the 12 inch drop in point it adjust the 7inch also.
 
Check with AK member 'Stoffie' (is in Belgium), who has a PS-X800s, but doesn't post in this forum. He may either know the fix or can put you in touch with someone who does.
 
After adjustment of ALL tonearm parameters it finally finds the lead in groove.
I am still struggling with RV107 which is for HOR angle detection. The procedure in the SM is not useable. I have to turn the trimpot fully clockwise, otherwise the arm does not follow the lead out groove fast enough.
 
RV108 not RV107. You may need to adjust RV 107 afterwards to get the tracking error to zero. It should only take a very minor adjustment. Turning RV108 to the right moves the drop point inwards. A little tweaking will get you the perfect set down point and zero tracking error, in other words, pure bliss. I use a piece of printer paper to check tracking error.

Hi audiomagnate, I am doing some tweaking to my PS-X800 after doing quite a lot of work/repairs on it. Can you elaborate on your use of printer paper to check tracking error/RV107 adjustment procedure?

I have been totally at a loss as to what the translation of the adjustment procedure for RV107 means -- it is useless as written. However, I had deduced that approaching its adjustment from the point of view of tracking error was probably the best approach. Thus, interested to see hear from you on what you do here. Thanks in advance!

I am grateful, too, for your tip on using RV108 to set the drop 'point' (more drop 'angle', i guess). I had been approaching RV108 more from the perspective of ensuring that the arm sat at as perfect a right angle as possible to the slide bar when cued up. However, that left me with an arm that was dropping the needle just a tiny bit shy of the run in (dreaded reverse skate straight off the edge of the record). However, a tiny clockwise turn or RV108 seems to have 'toed in' the arm a fraction so the needle lands perfectly. I had also investigated changing the lead-in SLIT sensitivity via RV104... but that doesn't impact the drop point -- and fun fact, if you turn it fully clockwise the arm doesn't drop at all :eek:.

Also worth noting that after many, many years of the question about adjusting the PS-x800 drop-point being asked audiomagnate's is, I think, the first clear solution! Credit for that.

I have contributed to some threads on Vinyl Engine about this wonderful deck with exactly the same intention: let's try and actually share some helpful information about working on this machine which has either been removed and monetized by greedy academically-(en)titled techs or never gained as people seem so terrified of diving in and trying to work on it. There's very little information out there. To be fair, I get the that...it's not an easy table to work on compared, say, to my SL-QL1.... but it's worth it ;)

There are pots that allow adjustment of the drop point, two IIRC, but they can only be adjusted by removing the bottom panel. It's not a task for the uninitiated, and you could easily do some serious damage. Using a headshell with a fingerlift helps in the meantime.
