I have some questions about a f.m. sony tuner I have had for a while .

Can i hook this up to a stereo receiver amp (sony str-de615) and it will work?

And,
The earth terminal on back should be hooked to what?

Thank you for any help

Yes you can hook it to an Aux, Tape or CD input. I would not hook anything to the ground connector on the back.

Thanks Punker X , I hooked it up to the CD input and it wasn't very loud. The tuner has a fixed and variable output on the back and tried both. The music was barely audible. I didn't have an antenna connected so hopefully if I get one on there it will increase the volume,we will see.
I got the unit from a free pile in town and came to find out later it was Sonys first tuner on the american market, and built very well.
Hope to get it performing well, though I have read it is an investment to get it refurbished.....just what I need ,more heavy old stuff!
Thanks again

I didn't have an antenna connected

An external antenna is required. (That is true for virtually every FM tuner or receiver ever made.) One of the most ubiquitous kinds of antenna is a "dipole" or "T", which I think can still be readily found. Such an antenna would be connected to the terminals marked "300". Unless your location is really dead for FM, an antenna like that should allow your tuner to receive several stations with a strong indication on the leftmost meter. If that doesn't happen, it's possible that the tuner has a problem, but for sure an antenna is needed to find out.

HTH. Welcome to AK!

For a quick test, you can even attach a just a simple piece of wire to one of the antenna terminals. It should perk it up enough to receive a decently strong station, assuming you have any in your area. If the signal strength meter shows a decent signal you should hear the station OK; if not, then maybe the tuner needs some work (and that's why it was tossed). However that's a nice tuner and worth fixing, if needed.
