Sony STR-7055 Distortion

This from the specs you link to:
Recommended Amplifier Power
15 Watt

The receiver is rated at 35 watts, and Sony was very conservative with their wattage specs on these units. You may be turning the volume up high enough to drive the speakers into distortion.

That's a very good price for a working STR-7055.

Just to show you what happens.

when I move the balance to the right it’s sounds fine as I get higher. But the left is staticy

Try switching speakers: connect the one you now have on the right channel to the left, and vice versa. Dos the distortion stay on the left channel, or will it follow the speaker to the right?

Nope it’s fine if I balance it to one speaker it’ll go louder so I’m assuming it’s just distorting the speakers

Bummer.

I had a strange channel 'pulse' in an STR-6055 that turned out to be a bad OPT, but it sounded bad no matter the volume. Hope yours makes it back to 100%.
Same here, thankfully I found a local electrical engineer in the next town. Has a lot of good reviews and when I walked in saw a bunch of other Solid States and Tube Stereos around. So I felt confident. Hope for the best
