Sony TC 880 2

The Sony SM does not say anything about IEC EQ.

But, FWIW: I am convinced that my first Sony R2R I purchased as a kid (a TC-399) was actually an IEC machine. The reason I think this is because the tapes that I recorded on it all sound dull on NAB machines (including other Sonys), but when I play them on a Tandberg (which is IEC) or a Revox A77 in IEC mode, they sound perfect.

So I think that some Sony machines may have come from the factory set as IEC, and that this was never documented. Alternately: Yours might have been modified at some point.

Thanks, that is quite interesting!
I have spent hours and hours on calibration and cannot get it right, so i will revert to the settings that appear to be closer to iec as i can get it virtually perfect.
