hi lads, as above, I'm looking for a good Nichicon 12000uF 71V (or higher Voltage) pair of caps, or any good alternatives, for my AU-X901 amp's PSU. size must not exceed 40x75mm. please advise if you have any reliable sources (apart from PCX and Percy as they seem not carrying them any more). thanks a lot

Choices for capacitors of that size (10000/12000µF & 40mm) have almost completely evaporated, I have no suggestions for you.

thanks John - but that's the max. diameter (such as the given height), a smaller one (rather, 2) would be perfectly okay

I can find 12000µF 80V on ebay - but I can't recommend you buy capacitors from there.

Most who stock this kind of component have 160V and above examples, or 63V and below, 10000 and 12000µF seem to be listed as non stocked, (unless you want to buy 200), or simply do not appear at all in the listings.

Possible alternative : United Chemi-Con (UCC) 12000uF 80V snap-ins - dia 40mm x height 63mm - Lead spacing ? - currently in stock at Mouser Electronics

Edit:
Just checked the datasheet - the above cap could be a 5-terminal type(?) - you will need to confirm with Mouser directly
Here's another just found at Mouser - United Chemi-Con (UCC) 12000uF 80V snap-ins - smaller diameter though 35mm x height 63mm - Lead spacing 10mm - only a few left in stock

In digi-key you can find some CDE too... But it looks like the 40mm filter caps are part of 'in danger' species.

thanks, guys - much appreciated. will see. 15000uF seems to be too much, though. also, are the Nippons a good fit in place of the Nichicons as I saw a mamber was kindly thrashed due to replacing them for DNMs...

Digikey part # 338-2109-ND..These are CDE 40x65mm 12,000uf 80v....

I can't see a reason why jumping to 15,000 uF would be harmful.

I believe it's this one you were looking for, if you are still in need of them.
These are from my old Sony str-db840 receiver, you should be able to find it to a very low used price.

But I hope you already found a solution

Thanks Skywatcher

Yeah, I did noticed the date Replied because I just resently found two of these caps
I never reuse old caps. You never know what kind of "life" they had, nor do you know how much "life" is left in them. Old electrolytic caps become progressively internally leaky over time. ESR and Capacitance isn't the problem as much as leakage is..

Okay, thanks for info I didn't knew that, I'm a bit noob when it comes to circuits and it's components. I started to self-study and are still learning. I had this crazy idea of building my own power amp from scratch and realized there's alot to be learned before making this happen But most important, it will happen one day in the future
