Southern Audio Fest 2007

Does anyone remember how much rooms cost last year? I really want to go and stay all weekend, but my poor career choice forces me to work alternating weekends (12 on, 2 off - yuck!) I will have to make arrangements with my employer well in advance in order to attend.

I am so excited to hear toze might be attending! After reading his post I started going through my vinyl and pulling out all my Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd for us to rock out to!
 
I have something scheduled for early October, but I will watch this thread for "the date".

Hey, this is great. Looks like there is a good bit of interest in holding another Southern Audio Fest. The first thing we need to do is set a date.

Last year we met the first weekend in October and I think somewhere around that time would be good again. I have tentatively set it up with the hotel for the weekend of October 5th & 6th (Friday and Saturday).

Please let me know how those dates fit with your schedule. Of course, we are not going to be able to find a date the will work for everyone but by planning a date this far out it will give everyone time to make arrangements.

Room rates will be determined by how many rooms we reserve. Last year we only had 4 or 5 but the rate they gave us was based on us renting many more than that. The rate was $75.99 and I will try to get somewhere around that again. The hotel is the Wingate Inn in Duluth (off I-85) which is the NE Atlanta burbs.

The rooms have a sitting area that is separate from the sleeping area can be used for setting up a system/listening area. The bed remains and you can sleep in the room. For those who live in the Atlanta area and don't need a sleeping room several AK'ers can get together and share the cost of a room to use as a listening room. The hotel will remove the bed which makes for a good size room.

As soon as I get your thoughts on the date I'll make arrangements with the hotel and we'll be off and running. Continue to watch this thread for details.

I can't guarantee it (work schedules bumped me last year, dagnabit) but I'll make every effort to attend! :thmbsp:

Since Tentoze is coming, will there be a Brussels Sprouts room? :scratch2:
 
I'll be there, and I hope many more people will be able to attend this year. It would be great to have the whole floor to ourselves. We need to crank them up sometimes without the "hotel noise police" telling us to turn it down.

OK folks, we've got the Southern Fest hotel information nailed down. Here are the details.

It will be held October 5th & 6th at the Wingate Hotel in Norcross, Ga., a north Atlanta suburb. We have reserved a block of rooms on 5th floor which will keep our group and our music all together. This is the same hotel we met at last year. There are several room options for those from out of town who need a sleeping room and locals who just want a room to show and/or sell equipment.

All the rooms at the Wingate have a sitting area that can be used for listening and/or selling as well as a separate (adjacent) sleeping area. This is what's available:

2 Double beds: sitting area: 6' X 12' sleeping area: 14' X 12'

1 king bed: sitting area: 9' X 14' sleeping area: 11' X 12'

The Wingate will remove any beds you want. If you need only one double bed you can have the other removed to expand your listening area. They will also remove all the beds if you want the whole room for listening. Rooms can be shared for listening and/or sleeping. Plenty of flexibility to meet your needs.

Room rates are the same as last year, $75.99 +tax per room, per night, breakfast included. Reservations need to be made by calling the hotel direct at 770-622-7277. Specify King or Double room and let them know if you want any beds removed. Ask for the AK Southern Audio Fest event rates. If you have any special needs or problems let me know. I will be the contact with the hotel.

We also expect to have a hospitality suite on the same floor that we will use as a gathering/meeting place as well as some scheduled activities during the Fest. Details to follow.
