Speaker Cable help

Hello,

I was wondering if you could give me a hand. I was hoping to upgrade my speaker cables. My main system is using Audioquest Indigo + in single bi-wire cable.

I was wondering what cable would be a nice mach with it for bi-wiring. I was thinking to leave the Indigo for the lows and getting a superior one for the highs.
I thought about the Audioquest Granite, but do not know how it would mach.

Another option I would also consider is put the Indigo in my bedroom system and getting a better single bi-wire cable.

Any suggestions/recommendations? Any experiences?

Thanks,

It’s best to stick with the same type wire for bi wiring , even if you matched the same gauge there’s no certainty that two different wire is made of the same materials in which could cause a difference in sound that may not sound good , therefore your better off getting the same exact wire for shot gun bi wiring . As for suggestions for a good no wire cable there’s a ton out there and a lot that are good . I use Wireworld Eclipse 7 biwire and they work very good for me .

You should be fine mixing AQ Indigo+ and Granite. I would start with the Indigo on the woofers and Granite on the mids/tweeters, and then swap and see which you like better. Of course you could also re-terminate the Granite into a single biwire configuration yourself.

If you're looking for a little more sparkle in the treble, consider Nordost Blue Heaven for the highs and the AQ Indigo on the woofers.

I understand what you mean, maybe I should stick to the same series so I can not go wrong.

Thanks for your response. I thought the granite would be a good idea for the mids and tweeters because of the perfect surface copper PSC it is supposed to be better than the indigos FPC and LGC, if I am not wrong.

I also reed that some people prefer the old Audioquest cables more than the newer models, is it just a question of tastes or is there a reason?

I really do not know Nordost cables and I am not sure if my system will benefit with them. The problem is I live in Spain and there is no place here I can test cables and give them back, at least any where close to where I live. So I thought that sticking with audioquest is a safer bet because I know them.

I was also interested in the AQ midnight, but I reed somewhere that they were not recommended because of the PVC jacket, it cracks and brakes off, this can be dangerous.

Thanks

I've got a mix of older and newer AQ cables, all using different grades of copper conductors. Started out in the early 90's with Type 6, and have added Type 4, Bedrock, Granite, and Rockefeller pairs over the years. All are very good. I'm currently using the newer Rockefellers in my primary system and the Granites in a living room system.

I was also looking at some Gibraltars but they are not easy to find and go a bit too expensive. Worth the stretch?

Also, do you think the Granite will be better bi wiring them with the Indigo? or is it a question of testintg?

Gibraltar was the top of the line cable in the same family that included Granite, Bedrock, and Rockefeller, so I'm sure it's quite good. Is it worth the extra coin?? Only you can make that decision.

As far as which cable to use in which position, best advice is to try different combinations and let your ears decide.

Vintage speaker cables & vintage speakers:

Steve Hoffman, Mastering Engineer, told me a long time ago...

"If you have a vintage stereo - use vintage 'type' cable, because this was the 'type of cable used' when they designed the speakers".

Makes sense to me. Sounds 'outstanding' if you get the right vintage 'quality type' cable - 'synergy'.

I use 2 pair of 1980 Sansui PS-107C 'High-Efficiency', thick black jacketed, 23' long, speaker cables. Works for me - sounds great.

Canare use to make a 13 awg quad cable speaker wire with very fine stranded wire. It was easy to handle. It does have a nice strong jacket to protect the wire. Monster cable made a flat 4 conductor wire for car stereos, that was 14 awg as I remember, that was very flexible and easy to install. I bought some very this wide flat 14 awg wire I use under my carpet for my rear bi amped speakers. But I don't know who made it. Check with a big car stereo shop. Parts express may have something you will like and can afford.

Hello,

Do not understand why, if cables get better with time (modern cables), it means the the connection between components is better, gives us better sound, or maybe I am seeing something wrong?

It also might be hard to get the perfect cable if I look for one according to my equipments age. My Speakers are quite modern so is my DAC/Pre-amp, my power amp is older but I do not think it is considered vintage yet.

Although I think that the system in my room might be "vintage".

Will check it out, but I think I want to stick to solid, not stranded cable.
Thanks.

I think if you stick with the good early AQ cables such as BedRock and Indigo you will get a nice result.
