Speaker Placement- Free Time

I'm playing with the placement of my speakers this morning. My room is not ideal & the wife will not allow me to leave them this way for to many days.

I've pulled them out from the wall about 3 feet & seperated them about 12 feet. This adds 3-4 feet distance each way. Truly amazing the difference of the sound quality just by playing around with the placement. I feel like I've gone from fairly good speakers to some of the best I've ever heard. It"s almost as if I've gone out and purchased new speakers. WOW! Isn't this hobby fun...........:thmbsp:

You can try Baja's idea but some speaker cabinets like to be physically connected to the floor for good bass extension. :smoke:
 
Yes, you are right. But since he said he wanted to experiment I think everybody needs to hear how their listening experience will change based on this trial. Most folks I know who experiment with the height end up keeping them off the floor to some degree...

Yes speaker placement can make a HUGE improvement. I was also amazed the first time I pulled my speakers out from the front wall. In my room the speakers sound best about 4 feet from the front wall.

Now that you figured out this trick to improving your system the next step is room treatments. :yes: Treating the side walls made a big improvement in my room.

Victor, any suggestions that won't make my family room look awful? Thx.
 
Having nothings directly between the speakers will have a huge effect on imaging. Moving the face of my Tannoy's forward 2-3' from my TV made more of a difference than any other room treatments. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to reinstall my sound traps for the first reflection.

Sonus Faber's are known to sound better when placed well into the room. I have had a similar epiphany as yourself with my Cremona Auditors which are pulled out bout 3 1/2 feet from the front wall. the depth/3D imaging this affords is addicting! there is no going back for you now. just find the sweet spot, discretely put some tape markers down and simply pull your speakers back out when you are listening critically and the wife isnt lookin :yes: room treatments also are critical, ASC products made a large difference in my small, but dedicated room. speaker placement is free and, i feel, one of the largest differences you can make in your system, especially with SF in my experience.:music:

Absolutely true.
 
Speaker placement is such a very selective thing. It is hard to get two people to agree EXACTLY how far from the wall, how high, direction, etc. Hell, I even disagree with myself after listening for awhile...
