Hey everyone. I recently got a pair of JBL lx55 speakers. The subwoofer driver on one of the speakers is dead. Besides that they sound great. I am wondering what I can do besides replacing the driver to fix the problem. I checked the speakers with a multimeter and there definitely is power going into the sub, but besides that they're dead. It looks like they've been refoamed recently. The surround, cone, and spider all look ok. They aren't brittle or crusty. Could this be a problem with the coil? Or maybe the cone? I have no idea. Would this be something that is fixable, or should I just try to replace the driver? Thank you.

Alright. I've never done this before. Should my reading be equal to the amount of Ohms for that particular driver?

It will usually read a bit lower than the nominal AC impedance rating. An 8 ohm driver often reads around 5-6. But if it's not working at all, it will probably read infinite resistance.
Ok great thanks guys, I'm gonna test it later tonight and let you all know. One other thing... let's assume that I do get a good reading? What should I do then? If the sub is all good, but not working when on the speakers.

Keep it simple first. Follow the wires from the woofer to the connection terminals and make sure the connections are still ok which means just carefully look . If the woofer checks out with the multimeter, the only thing left is those connections.
