What about using mild steel and welding stands together. Use flat plates on the top and bottom and a pole in the middle. All you have to do is adjust the length of the pole to the height that you want. You could also use spikes as feet to stop vibration or bolt it to the floor.
Oh and sadly you would also have to drill holes in the bottom of the speaker and use t-nuts to bolt it to the stand.

,....I'll try the pics later... I'm in the process of fabricating a pair of wooden stands for my L112's, $20. looks like. Using finish/higher grade 2'X2' plywood at Lowes -- I know, pics would help! -- 3/4" base platform with 2 risers - vertical pieces with about a 2 degree rake, 4 1/2' high, also 3/4" thick with a 1/2" square piece (top where the speaker sits) same size as the speaker bottom. Added a 1/2"X 1/2" heel in the back that the speaker fits up flush with. Will add pics.

The problem is that I have no idea of what the HPM looks like, what his room looks like, his taste, his wifes taste, his skill level with metal/wood/other. There are just too many variables that for me (an artist and designer) need to be addressed before I could come up with something.

Pioneer HPM 100's are 15 3/8(W) x 26 6/16(H) x 15 15/32(D)in 4 way speaker design, almost like the JBL L100's (some history there). The room is 18 long by 13 wide.. If that helps.. I have heard that they should be between 8-14 inches off the floor and NOT tilted.. I like the Metal and wood look and have an idea but am just looking for some other ideas.. I am not too far, geographically from you.

Beer can speaker stands
I have some stands that I make out of...get this...8 Heineken beer cans and 2 8x10 sheets polycarbonate ! Easy to do and you get to drink 8 beers per stand to complete
I'll post pics tomorrow and if any interest i'll do a step by step. They look great..you're gonna laugh!

wouldnt they be more valuable with the beer still in em? But then making them wouldnt be nearly as fun.

One step better..Laser cut the Pioneer emblem out of stainless steel then electro-polish..:scratch2:
