My SX-1050
This is a brand new problem. I have been listening to this receiver pretty regularly for quite a while. It had been working fine, then a friend wanted me to clean up the pots in his old receiver so I had disconnected mine from my turntable and speakers to try out the receiver that I was working on. I listened to it for around 2 weeks. Today, I decided to re-connect my Sx1050 and now, it will sound great for somewhere between 5 to 10 seconds then it will give out a deep sounding noise then both channels will just completely cut out, then a second or two later, the protection relay kicks in.
Update: I've decided to use the radio section of the amp and now things seem ok.....so far! My turntable didn't cause this on the other receiver though.....

Greetings;

Couple of weeks might have discharged the unit.. maybe needed a warm up period/ age repair? (speaker phase in caps from other amp/protection kicked in? 'groaning noise' /speaker caps changing? I dunno.. ) .. I'd try TT again.

nice amp.

Well, I noticed that speakers will cut out and protection circuit kicks in then if I turn the volume knob back and fourth several real times the protection circuit goes back to normal and then everything is fine. I'm wondering if I have a dirty volume pot. I've noticed in the past that if I don't use it for a while, the pots and switches with get scratchy. Maybe that's it?? I played my ipod the through the Aux input and same thing happened. As I say, turning the volume pot back and fourth does seem to help. I guess I need to pick up some DeOxit!

You may want to move this or post in the Pioneer section. Some talented folks there. There is a lot of discussion about the protection circuit board and caps and transistors. Your problem is one one of the complaints.
