Speakers for speaker stands

:idea:image.jpg At the risk of losing cred ;) I would like to open up this for discussion. I know it is not ideal but until I get some quality stands for my new LS50 I have carefully placed them atop of my my PMC's which are not suited to my small room. I must say these LS are sounding so great in this arrangement I am considering leaving them as. The PMC are a rock solid base and the sound stage produced with the LS up there is blowing me away. Got them connected to bryston 4B SST. Someone remind me why this technically wrong  TJ

Nice setup. Speakers can make excellent stands unless a better solution comes along!
Altec Santanas providing audio support for Sylvania AS125B's. Both sets hooked up to different systems. My system is still in flux but it's amazing what will work together.

Does the speaker you are using as a stand dampen the output? I rarely use speakers as a speaker stand because once when I was auditioning speakers in a store someone made the point that it is best to isolate the speaker you are auditioning.

Linn used to require (probably still does) a single pair of speakers in the room when demoing any Linn gear. For those who think unused speakers have no effect on the sound I invite you to attach a scope probe to an unused speaker and monitor the output while playing music. If you must have unused speakers in the room you should at minimum short the input connectors.

Roger that thank you. I figure that the one commonality for everyone is that our systems are always in evolution or flux as you put it. lots of factors involved with these LS50. One is the response at low levels. The pmc can please me with their neutral accuracy and broad range detail but I need to drive them with some power to get the dynamics although the room is all wrong. The LS wake up with so much less power it is night and day in comparison suiting the room way better

Interesting that the rubber pads on the LS are higher on the back side giving them a tilt downwards? They are up high on the pmc's at about 47 inches to the centre so with just about all stands under 30 inch I figure I am in for change.

Welll I have allot of dormant cones in the area that is for sure. I am a long way from any critical listening for sure. So shorting the + - some how cancels or abates the response. Maybe the slightest tingle of the dead cones causes a potential which is lessened if poles are shorted.

It does not seem to, from what I can tell the pmc are dead weight solid but I have not had the LS long so the sound I hear seems to be totally representive of only them. They are not lacking in anyway, kind of amazing little suckers actually.
