If any Pioneer freaks are jonesing for a pair of sales display Pioneer HPM 100s, there is a pair on St. Louis Craigslist. They aren't too far from me, so I could pick up and hold, or begin a pony express.

They don't work as well as the real deal, as the panels dont have as good a mechanical seal as wood(normally), but visually these are stunning.

Wow these are super cool! Did any other speaker companies make clear sales display models like this?

Many of the successful speaker companies that were flush with cash did this in the mid 1970s. The rage before this was to do cutaway displays, which killed an actual speaker that then could not be sold. I have seen JBL, Altec, AR, and possibly Advent use plexi display models.

JBL would provide their top sellers in each district with either a pair of L100s, or an LE8T in an explode expanded format, in plexi. They always were viewed as "cool" by gear freaks like us. :thmbsp:

Many yrs.ago I'd seen a set of Bose's home theater setup that were clear acrylic but they were display models for the retailer. Those Pioneers would really be cool if you were to install lites that kept time with the music in the cases...eh. Or maybe not.

A friend of mine has a pair. They are cool looking but they do not sound as good as my wood ones.

Well, IMO the HPM 100s were partway toward bad to begin with. Removing the necessary batting and then stuffing them in plexi completed the journey. These do not sound good(from the times I have heard them and ran out of the room) and I would not expect anything different from these.

Some gear you don't buy with any hope or expectation of anything good, but boy, they sure strut some pride of the brand. Fortunately I don't like Pioneer speakers, so no worries at any end here. :D

Pioneer SPEC gear is a different story.
