Starting Over

Hello all,
New here. As I mentioned in my intro, I used to be in Home Audio but had to sell everything, time went on and now that I am in a bit better shape I would like to start again.

What I would like to do (encourage me or discourage me, I am here to listen).

I have:
1 - I want to store my music in a hard drive (check!). All of it is ripped from CD's I own.
2 - The hard drive is connected directly to my TV and I will use my TV remote and the music app for control.
3 - The TV has an optical out which I would like to take advantage of.

I want:
1 - A miniDSP 4x10 Hd Processor so I can use it with REW. This has the optical in I need.

Here is where I am a little sketchy, the following is what I am going to need most of the help with.
2 - I need a way to control the volume. Maybe an integrated amp?
3 - Amplification, this is going to be dependent on what I decide to do with the speakers.
4 - For the speakers I don't know if I should go DIY with raw drivers and run active or just get a pair of tested and true reliable already made speakers. If I go DIY I am going to go full active or if I go with already made speakers I may want to have them bi-amped so I can have more control over EQ and levels.
5 - As far as subs go I already own an Exodus Tempest driver. I also had in mind going DIY with the sub as I have thus driver left over from another project. But if it makes more sense to get an already made sub I will go that route.

I know this is quite a bit to comment on but I want it to post it so I can start hearing your initial comments. As I get ready to buy the gear I will make more focused posts.

I look forward to hearing what you have to say. Please let me know if you think I am doing something stupid. :)

Glad to be here.

Welcome to AK, I think some members can help you here but you should also know that AK has a sister site.

Video Karma
http://www.videokarma.org/

I might be helpful to sign up there also as the focus is more along the lines of audio video.

Some television monitors have the option of varying the audio out. It links the output with the volume control/remote. Yes the sister site would be more specific, but we will try and assist your search for audio bliss. Good luck.

It does for headphone out. I currently have a set of powered Yamaha monitors hooked up to it. But I am pretty sure there is no volume control for the optical out.
