Starving student modified amp

Hi:

Has anyone here built a starving student vacuum tube amp and modified the circuit to use different tubes such as the old Soviet 6j1P or E95F ?

Also, Is there anyone in the Raleigh NC USA area that has built any amps like this? Cheers.

So 'Starving Student' should be capitalised as it's a 'thing', not a student who is actually starving to death and building an amp to somehow consume for nutrition ?

Capitalised is spelled capitalized. Since I am probably the worlds worst speller, I'll admit spell check caught it not me. :) Now back to the original topic. I built one of these amps and like it with the 19J6 tubes. I found a pair of NOS tubes that tested great and sound very good. Is there something you don't like about the sound, or are you just wanting to experiment?

Hi Chuck:

I don't have a problem using the tubes in the original design. I just happen to have a bunch of Soviet era 6J9-P which I believe is an equivalent to the E95F that I would like to put to use. As Jeff mentioned above, the tubes are not compatible with the Starving Student amplifier so it is a non issue. I will try building the amp using the original design.
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
