That is a good deal on that Stereotech. My bud has one for sale and I've been trying to justify bringing it home. If only it had Mcintosh printed on it somewhere.........

That's the cool thing - I didn't when I first saw it. The photo piqued my curiosity about the receiver, and a quick Google later, I'm back at AK reading threads about how it's a really good piece. I love this site!

Wow! At that price whether you need it or think you do not, you should grab it. I do not know what the JBLs are but their should make some nice sound on the cheap. The 1200 comes close to the classic McIntosh ss sound of the era.

I am downsizing with no intention of buying anything but I would break my commitment if that was here.

Motorstereo, justification is: Near McIntosh quality, great sound (I like it better than the 1900), looks like the 1900 and, as these are not on the collector's radar are underpriced for what they are.

There are numerous categories of persons in this hobby such as audiophile,.stereophile, collector, diy'er and loser. If you do not grab them guess what category you get classed to. :)

Seriously, they are good and the preamp can be separated so you can use it as a tuner/preamps or power amp. As a tuner/preamp, or just as a preamp, the $175 is still very good value.

Thanks Brian; Just what I need is a push to bring home yet another receiver. The problem is like I mentioned there's no Mcintosh name anywhere, it's signficantly more than $175, and I've already got plenty of great sounding receivers. If that puts me in the last catagory then so be it.
I had an ex wife that used to refer to me as a "no good drunken bastard" so a loser isn't all that bad I guess:D
