Well, not exactly your father's street race. The Long Beach Grand Prix ran this past weekend. It is a bonafide street race. They set the course up in the tourist area, just below Downtown Long Beach. The main straight away is on Shoreline drive.
I've lived in Long Beach for more than 20 years and this is the first time I saw the event from the inside. My wife scored a free pass for Saturday and I spent the afternoon at the race.
Saturday was a Celebrity race, qualifying for the main event on Sunday, a drifting competition and the "American Lemans" race. It was pretty cool. I took a bunch of pictures but most of them look like crap. Here's a couple that weren't half bad. These were taken during the qualifying laps.
