Stylus for Empire 999 improved e/x Cartridge

Ok give it a try , see if it helps if you isolate the cartridge and headshell . Though it , still might be a subwoofer problem .Or someone might respond who had a similar problem . Might like the Grado hum , some people get it and some don't.

I reinstalled the cartridge to the head shell with the Teflon washer between The to and I also cleaned up the grounding screw on the fever which was had surface rust on call contact points and I no longer have my hum YAY!

also as I’ve been surfing around the AK Kingdom I come across a lot of people finding decent turntables at Goodwill so I happen to stop and one that is close to my house and picked up a Dual 1257 And it works ! All I see missing is a small screw that is used to Secure the cartridge?

is she a keeper ?

Search for your model on AK search bar. Looks great! I believe the mount on that table is for the ULM (ultra light mass) cart/stylus'. You can find a stylus replacement or opt. to purchase the 1/2" adapter and possibly added tonearm counterweight(s) to accommodate the change. 1/2" gives you the flexibility to use many more cart/stylus options.

My memory is foggy on this but I believe that missing screw doesn't hold the cartridge directly, it locks the quick-release mechanism. The finger lift actually swivels towards the rear to release the cartridge sled, this drops the cartridge (which still hangs by the wires). Not the most convincing system back in the mists of time when I had one, and I seem to recall there was a glue bond somewhere that was iffy even back then. Add 40 years... I would be careful and check what's what before trying to play anything. And do get in touch with the Dual crowd here on AK.

Thanks for all the info !! I was just amazed on the condition of the dual for its age and I did unfortunately test it out on one of my albums(i’m in the learning process with this stuff but I do have good teachers here on AK) and it sounded really good out of a pair of jbl82

I did download the service manual and was going to attempt to go through and perform the required pm maintenance ( I am a mechanical engineer by trade & own my own preventive maintenance service company for all kinds of packaging equipment so feel it should be that difficult just will require excessive amounts of patience)

I will also like to note that while I was at my local GW I did give the manager my Business card and told him if any other vintage looking turntables and equipment came in to give me a call and sure enough I get a call today of a JVC L-F41 witch I picked up for dollars witch also came with the matching amplifier

I see that this is starting to become an addiction!!! lol!!

i’m just totally amazed how each Turntable has its own unique sound
