Suggestions on '70's receiver?

Specifically looking at some Japanese receivers for use with my turntables - of the ones listed are there any that might have a good phono section ( and obviously sound great )?

I am keeping the budget at 250 or less and here is what I have found locally on Craigslist recently:

Sansui R50 - 100.00
Hitachi SR1100 - 165.00
Pioneer SX 737 - 250.00
Realistic STA 95 - 160.00
Realistic STA 100 - 120.00
Pioneer SX 780 - 200.00 ( missing cover )
Nikko 3035 - 100.00
Pioneer SX 750 - 250.00
Sansui 3000A - 200.00 ( has wood case )
KLH Model 51 - 175.00
Technics SA 5470 - 100.00
Pioneer SX 780 - 260.00

Currently I am using a Luxman R113 which is quite a nice sounding unit, not certain as to the quality of the phono section - I use a JVC QL A5 through it and a DJPRE2 for a Pioneer PL15R and PL 630 currently. The speakers are some '90's Keswick Volante Evolution floor standing so I will not be using anything vintage there ( as in '70's or earlier ) so that would have a bearing on what might work best.

I always wanted a silver faced '70's receiver and as the 35W per side Luxman is more than enough I do not really need more power, not an issue in my price range anyway!

The Technics SA 5470 looks like the best value there.
I had the Lux R-113 and as a lux fan, it's already a fine sounding unit and works well as a preamp to a more powerful amp.

Jump on it before it's too late!

Pick one that has already been recapped. If not, anything from the 70's will need to be done soon if it doesn't already.

I really miss my fully restored Sansui 881 regret selling it. Also it's younger brother 771 at 40 watts may be suitable.

If a 70s silverface receiver is what your heart desires,
Look no further than the Pioneer SX 750.
It is the prototypical mid-powered silverface receiver.
I know a lot of folks don’t like paying the premium for the name but the heart wants what it wants.

It looks to be a toss up between a Pioneer and Technics - read through the posting link on the Technics receivers and I should mention that the SA 5470 is now 75.00, needs a balance knob and is a bit " scratchy " in the right channel at higher volume, a case of some Deoxit no doubt. I should check it out pronto as it certainly is a good price. Here are some images from the listing:

Go to eBay and put in every unit on your list. Then look for the "sold" listings for units that were in working condition to see the market value (or close to it). It is not the end all but it it will give you some help.

I love my 5470 , I would jump on that for $75.

What are you waiting for that's a steal !
You can get a balance knob off eBay no problem...

The Seller again mentioned that increased volume had the right side distorting somewhat - not sure what that might indicate but functions fine otherwise. I could do much worse and even if some servicing is needed will try - need to arrange a meet up. Anyone know how this would this compare to the Luxman R113 and is the phono section better? I am assuming back then with vinyl in the forefront this would be expected from a decent receiver.

Just trying to confirm before taking the plunge as it were!

Technics SA 5470 if far nicer than the Luxman in my opinion....

Run don't walk and get it before a flipper gets it and cleans the controls and sells it for $450 canadian $$$

Don’t buy it if it’s distorting. Get the SX-750 or 737. The Sansui 3000As are famous for being poorly designed—stay away from that one.

Get as many watts as you can afford. 35 watts is nice but the overhead you will get from a 70 watter will pay dividends in speaker selection.

I decided on the Technics 5470 - Seller was quite nice and offered to plug it in and listen through headphones - seems his wife thought he should sell it as it was being stored and he had other gear, he really did not want to sell it and even if it might need some work I was willing to give it a try. I will check it out tomorrow and use the Boston Acoustics T830s initially, maybe set it up in the bedroom if it works out and use one of the 3 turntables I have - the Bostons would probably be a good match - the certainly sound very good with a Denon AVR 1907 currently in use.

Is it best to simply wrap bare wire around the speaker terminals? Need to find something appropriate as all my present wire is terminated with banana plugs.

I must be getting older as the thing seemed to weigh more than 30 odd pounds as walking a fair distance from the car to my apartment gave me a bit of a workout! By the way, has anyone installed led lights in these receivers, say perhaps a subdued blue colour?
