Super Heresy v2 Project

The TF1225 (250W) is the one to use. No one here (that we know of) has experimented with the other models.

The 1225e is 1dB less efficient but other parameters of it are similar to the 1225.

You brought something I have been thinking about. How does the V2 modification affect efficiency? I'm using a Fisher 800B receiver and appreciate the effects (longevity of tube life as well as sonics) of high efficiency speakers on tube amps. Thanks again!
 
The various versions of the Heresy mod will have slightly different efficiency numbers depending on the woofer used. The woofer is the least efficient driver, so the mid & tweet have to be padded down to match the woofer. The 1225 is 97dB and porting it will yield a theoretical 3dB. So let's say we are at 99dB for the entire Heresy loudspeaker after the mod.

That is plenty efficient for even a 3.5W/ch 2A3 SE amp to get to decent listening volume.

I'm reviving this thread to ask one more question. I have decided to take the dive into replacing the woofers with set of Celestion TF1225s'. However, I see that Part's Express carries two versions of these woofers; one rated at 150-watts and the other at 250. I figure 150-watts would be more than sufficient for my needs however, outside of the watt rating, is there any reason to pick one woofer over the other in converting my Heresies? Thanks

The TF1225 in the "Super Heresy recipe" (attached) is the 250W version.

Since the 250W version is only USD$10 more than the 150W version, I haven't bothered to see how the less expensive unit compares.

You want the tf 1225. NOT the tf 1225E
