Superscope R310

I have a Superscope R310 amp/receiver. The radio and aux cd sound good, but I've tried several turntables on this system, and they don't sound so good, lots of loud crackling and hiss (especially on "S" sounds in the vocals) that I don't get on other amps. Is there anything I can do on my own to improve this? I'm not audio-technical savvy, so it would have to be simple.

Well, you've narrowed things down to the phono preamp in the receiver - assuming that the same turntable performs without the sibilance - the 'sssss' sound you're hearing.

Generally, the first place to start looking is the power supply. It has to be up to spec before going any further. If you've got a volt meter and a schematic and can follow along, you may find the 'arm chair bench techs' here at AK can help guide you.

If all this is too daunting, then get the unit to a local bench tech and give him the symptoms you've reported here.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

David

I know this is an old thread but thought I 'd add this service bulletin in regards to the phono section.
