Sweet Luxman monoblocks on DC CL...

LOL.. If I bought another thing that expensive, my wife will go to prison as I said yesterday..

Nice amps..I wonder if they run on 120V or the Japanese100V. I bought a Lux once It needed 100V.

Input is marked 117V so they run on US power not the 100V Japanese power.

great amps. Tim Di Paravicini designed. Market correct price at the moment. These have gone for 1200-2000 in the past.

The original power tube the NEC-made for Luxman 8045G is very hard to find and the amps have the ability to be rewired (a few changes) to use either KT88 or 6550 in either ultralinear or triode operation. Additionally the 6240G tubes are hard to find also but I've read that there are drop in replacements such as the 6CG7.

These are classics along the lines of the much better known McIntosh MC30. These Luxman amps look more highly finished as they came out years after the MC30.

Someone looking for this kind of amp would be very happy with these.

sigh... my bonus yesterday just don't cut it for these.. affter seeing Classic Audio's site, it sure makes me wish.. OH WELL.. My Strombergs should far out do them once I get them done..

Power, IDK, sound quality, I don't think so based on my readings.

That pair on classicaudio has upgraded inputs and upgraded? AC input. I don't know why one would need to ground the power amp (provided there is a connection between the gnd lug and the amp inside the unit. These came with a two-prong AC cord/receptacle.

I have a couple of knowledgable friends whose search for a good tube amp ended with these. They are quite good. :thmbsp:

IDK?

Power wise, the Stroms are 200w... sound quality, they are supposed to be pretty serious sounding.. .but it's to be seen.. I know the trannys on the Stomrs make these look kinda small..

200w of tube power is serious and needs some serious trannys. Luxman started as a transformer manufacturer so they were able to build exactly what was needed for these amps. I'll look for your post about the Strombergs.

Never knew Luxman started out as a tranny maker.. that's really interesting.

I hope to get started on the Stroms in March. I will probably start working on the chasssis for them before that though.

The person I will have doing the electronics work is backed up until March.

I hope you know that the Stroms are 200 watt consumption. Output is about 85 watts.

I knew that they were Tim de P designed, and that the valves were almost unobtanium but wasn't aware that they could be adapted to use other tubes. :scratch2:

I doubt that Luxman transformers would beat anything designed by TdP.Which makes me wonder just how much of his transformer philosophy that he shared with the Lux engineers. He has repeatedly mentioned in interviews over the years that one of the fundamentals of his components is that the transformer winding is done 'in-house'.I would not even be surprised if Tim does the transformers himself. That is how(justifiably)protective he is of his techniques.

Tim d P found himself at odds with the Lux engineers over circuit design. He wanted to introduce new ideas and they wanted to stick to traditional circuits.Tim did the right thing and went into business for himself.Good on ya Tim. :thmbsp:

It would be an interesting amp to listen to.

Everything I've read and been told is they are 200w output...

soooooo... any way to figure it out for sure? I was just reading a pair of KT88 in push pull can put out 100w, so then a quad will do 200w? I was also just reading of another amp with quad KT88's that is also 200w out..

On my stroms which are the same as yours it does say 200 watts. That's the units consumption not output. When I had them restored the tech measured them at 85wpc into 8ohms.
I have a graph of their output I'd be glad to send you.
Don't fret though; those 85 watts will drive an inefficient older pair of infinitys to insane levels. I can just imagine how nice those will sound on your monster jbls.
