Considering they have been going in the 3000.00 range on the 'Bay, thats cheap

I did e-mail the seller. Supposedly all connections work but the phono section is "untested". The glass is cracked, all bulbs work and "One of the rear plastic bumpers broken. A few minor scratches."
I might give it a listen unless it gets sold soon.

This one is a great test for me, i'm so glad i passed.

I wonder how much closer and cheaper it'd have to be to seriously interest me.:scratch2:

You passed?
Me wonders about you.......

Dam. if I wer closer it would have already been cleaned, glass ordered and back in use.

I wonder what a round trip plane ticket to NY costs???

A 1980 is neither on my short or long list, i've lived with one in the past and it wasn't a life changing experience for me, certainly other folks mileage will vary as it is "holy grail" to some.

This particular one is priced too high for a flip considering it's condition, and the shipping liability it presents to get it to a new owner willing to pay enough to make it interesting.

If it were a good bit cheaper, i'd consider it for parting out. It could certainly help restore a few others to 100%.

For somebody that wants to own one, this might well be a good deal if you can trust the seller's interpretation of "working".

Just my .02...........

I would consider at $750 but I would have to look closely at the damage. If it is a matter of swapping parts sourced from ebay, the final cost should come in well under $1k. If the box is in decent shape with original packing and with manuals, that would be a huge bonus.

Bowtie, I actually don't wonder about you all, I just had to be dramatic. I really do wish it were closer.
So, if you bought it you would have failed huh? I have done a lot more impulsive and stupid things than this.

The location is also a factor, if it were close enough to call "local" i'd have to start all over and re-think it. But, for somebody willing to travel a bit the location might be key as it's not really "local" to anything.

When i hear/see "Brookfield" i immediately think of state forest and snowmobiling.

This is less than 25 minutes from me guys. i will try to go and listen to it asap.
I think you are all saying that this is a pretty good deal. I own a 1250 which is nice, but not life changing. I am however a sucker fro vintage stuff...and perhaps would not lsoe money on this even if I would spend some to make it close to 100%.

Ooooops, different "Brookfield", this must be in the mid-lower Hudson valley, no?

The area i was thinking is ~30 miles south of Utica.

Sancho, keep the 1250 no matter what you do, IMO it's "the best" sounding receiver Pioneer made.

25 minutes away would sure make it a lot more tempting, and not an unreasonable distance to cover in case it fails the "in person" test.

Well worth the 25 mile drive, IMHO. Better have help unloading it when you get home or at the sellers house if a woman is selling it.

Well the seller forgot to hit "reply all" so I did not get his reply while I was at work. This resulted of me missing the opportunity to see it last night. He checked both Phono connections as well and both work. Now I am not able to get there tonight but maybe Friday. However I bet it will be sold by Friday.

I can hardly believe this thing hasn't sold yet. Discounting 50% from market value, for the damage, it's still a bargain. It's on the opposite side of the planet for me, so I wouldn't consider it even for "free", but how many AKers alone live within 100 miles of this? The economy must be as bad as some people say it is!

Sancho22, good luck! I hope for your sake it hasn't sold by Friday, and you get it. But I think that is unlikely, given the hype/mystique/mania that often seems to surround this model.

Well I just got back from listening to it. All works fine but the Phono one which hums - is it possible that there is some MC/MM issue with the TT we used and the phono 1?

One of the rear rubber bumpers is missing, has a cracked glass and the top is a bit bent and will need re-spraying. It is mine I am picking it up tomorrow.

Would it worth getting a nice Vintage Pioneer SG-9500 10 Band Graphic Equalizer which ahs its box and the matching wood case (to match the receiver)?
