I just got a pair of the 525s. Same model as yours, except in black veneer. I wonder if this iteration of the speaker were the earlier or later model? Some models have a raised baffle plate on which the drivers sit. I don't know if the raised baffle was an earlier or a later edition. Either raising the drivers was seen as an improvement or taken away as a cost saving measure during production. Anyway, I concur about these being special speakers. I have them running with a Fisher 500B receiver and the detail is wonderful and the treble absolutely lovely -- airy and refined. One of the best trebles I've heard. As others have mentioned, the cabinet are like rock, so solid. The Szabos are great speakers, and I've had quite a few over the years. :thmbsp: I think these are going to be my main second system speakers (Dahlquist DQ-10s are my mains). As others have said, do not pass up these speakers if you stumble across a pair. The correct foam size is 5.25". Perfect bedroom or den speaker. Listening to the Blade Runner soundtrack right now, it's hardly ever sounded better. The bass that is there is surprisingly powerful for their size. Their strength is a very natural, relaxed presentation. Pianos are amazing. just about perfect weight. The music sits a bit back in the soundstage and the vocals sound human and unforced. They perform best at lower levels, which is a nice thing. A nice natural, silky listen level for prolonged periods. If you're looking for a bombastic presentation or to bring down the walls with guitars, these are probably not your speakers, they're too polite for that. But if you want a speaker that chases the holy grail of "smooth but detailed" this are great little speakers.
