Teac A-2300S tape deck

This is a heavy tape deck at least 40 lbs. It came with a remote control box, Teac RC 120, on a 10ft? cord. THe remote duplicates the 6 push buttons on the unit. I looked inside and cleared the cobbweb. It has only one drive belt and it looked good. I have not run it with a tape yet, but all the motor runs.

1. Anybody know if this is a good unit and worth keeping? Is it worth anything?

2. I need help on what buttons to push for recording. pushing on the record button and nothing happens. Do I have to push play and record together?

3. THe deck won't run without the remote though the buttons are the same on both. The remote plugs into the deck on what looks like a tube socket. I think there is a jumper wire I have to use if I want to run it without the remote. Anybody has either a pin out for the socket or can tell me what pins to connect?

I may have a manual for it, not sure. I think it's the same model??

That is the unit. Don't know if you still have your unit. Is it something worthwhile to keep as the only rtr?

Hopefully you can help me out on the questions. Anyway I am thanking you for looking. I will be absent for a couple of days because the pay master wants me on the road.
 
SI,
To run it without the remote you will need to find a jumper plug. A lot of people think their decks are dead, but they just need a jumper. Not sure of the plug configuration though.

I think I can make something up in place of the plug if only I know which pins to bypass. I can always trace the wiring inside the remote and figure it out, but man that would be tedious work :( .

is in montebello, ca. its entirely possible that they may have the dummy plug that will enable your unit to be operated with its built in controls. who knows, they may even be able to supply you with the manual. this would be the obvious place to get new belts and pinch rollers.
to record, you press both record and play simultaneously. i would have the pause button on so i could start when im ready.

I FOUND IT ! What do you need to know??

According to the manual, there was a dummy plug, that was removed to plug in the remote.

The manual also says you can operate the front controls also (with the remote installed)

It sounds like the deck may not run with out the dummy plug in place (if you want to remove the remote)

To start recording push the "rec" and "pause" buttons at the same time. Then push the > (forward) buttons to start the tape.

Yes, it will not work with the remote disconnected. If your manual shows the wiring or schematic for the plug, I sure would like to get that.
