Teac C-2 quirks

Hooked for life
So I just got my Teac C-2 back from gettin new belts. It sound and works well for the most part. However, it has some quirks. When I try to rewind, especiall when the spool on the right is near full, the spindle kinda sputters. It goes, and like slows down for a moment, and back and forth, until the spools even out. I looked at the belts (what I can see), and there appears to be no belt slippage, but lots of parts and smaller belts are concealed. It also moves incredibly slow at that point. Something when I FF or RW it also make kinda squeeky noises, and I don't think it is the tape as my other deck will not make the noise with the same tape.

Changing the belts is one thing, changing the 2 idler tires and cleaning/re-lubing the spindles is another. Fortunately the mechanism in the C-2 is easy to remove and service. I have a c-3X, c-3RX, and a Tascam 122 which share the same mechanism.

5 screws and the whole thing just slides out for service. In a dire pinch, I have found that the idler tires can be replaced with "O"-rings as well.

I also found that the spindles need a drop of oil after so many years. 1/2 hour job.

Don't quit on it, the C-2 is one of the great decks built.
