Technics SA-1000--overpriced or market reality?

There is also one on the bay for 15g..... Idk... LOL. I was never into receivers was always into the separates.

There's another on eBay for $6500 BIN, but local pickup only (in Philly). This receiver is heavy but certainly shippable, I don't know why the seller wouldn't want to ship it. At any rate, there's always talk about selling prices of these, but there's very little history of actual sales (ebay currently shows none as sold).

ETA: found one sold four years ago for $3500.
ETA: supposedly this one closed at $7000 a few days ago, but it doesn't show up in a list of sold items.

I know on paper the 1000 is more powerful than an SX-1980, but in terms of usability and reliability I'd rather have the Pioneer.

I would have to agree..... I have a 1980 sitting in my basement currently I paid 100 bucks for at an auction some 10 years ago... Granted I have never heard the Technics but the Pioneer is sweet!

Still, I don't see what the draw is for these multi-kilobuck receivers. For the price paid, you can get a whole set of vintage separates (even a Mac system) that would have been considered high end back then, or even more recently, and would likely be superior in almost every way.

Yeah, I know this subject has been beaten to death, so...

Anyway this one is cooler

Why buy a 1950s Ferrari when a brand new Dodge Demon will go faster?

Never seen one in person.

Seems like prices are high on a lot of vintage these days.

Glad I bought when things were reasonable.

I do not think that there are more than five of them in Germany (Technics did not sell them in Europe). I know someone who bought a good one about eight years ago for some 2000 $. I do not remember the shipping costs - but they were IMMENSE!

If someone would sell one now I suppose that he could get 5000 euros or even more.

I just saw an ad for a Technics SA-1000 and was blown away by the asking price--$8,500 Cdn or close to $7,000 US.

I understand it was one of the biggest receivers ever. But is this model that rare to command such a high price?
This place was asking $25.000 for this receiver last spring, I guess it didn't sell last year. The seller is in my area, (never been there though), I doubt I could afford to walk through their door. ;)

I have both you are not missing anything by not owning the Technics. To my ears the pioneer sounds much cleaner, but the Technics does put out more Bass. Both of my Stereos have been recently rebuilt. So if I was going to make one my daily listener it would definitely be the pioneer

I am pretty sure I don't know exactly what that is but I know I need it...

IKR? That was my exact reaction. Thank God it's in Germany so I'm less tempted. Shipping costs and such.

OTOH, they're accepting offers :naughty:

You mean they just knocked off $16,500! Oh, and I just noticed the price is "plus tax"...which means the 12% BC sales tax adds just over $1,000.
