sound wise, in my not so professional opinion: "Decent".

They're rated up to 300W per the sticker on the rear; however I haven't really tried pushing them, as the surrounds are a bit dry. Still trying to soften those up with some Vinyl/Rubber protectant.

So far, they don't do so well with Hard Rock. Sound great with softer stuff; vocals, pianos, acoustics, jazz, blues, etc. Just not hard rock.

Well worth what I paid, IMHO.

I noticed though, they sound much better off my $3 Sansui receiver than off of my $300ish newer Yamaha HTR-5940.

Bit surprising IMO, given the looks. :scratch2:

Agreed. But he also mentioned he's not pushing them very hard, due to surround issues.

ah, i have found (i think) the reasoning as to why....

The bass echos/drones too much. Gonna have to get some additional padding to put inside these. They have a layer of deadening only on the back panel and only about halfway up.

Sharp, punctuated basslines are fine, but continuous low freqs drone on and muddle themselves up.

That's the best I can describe it anyway.

ShaneC,

Try changing up the placement of the speakers in your room. I found with my Infinities (in a lively room) that pulling them out from the walls eliminated a similar tendency for that drone. Putting them on some stands might improve it too. May or not work, but worth a try.

Pretty wicked looking speakers btw

Successfully played up to 22101hz (audibly).

Managed to hit a low of 3hz without blowing anything up, not that I could hear it.

Apparently I can't hear much at or below about 25hz anyway. 20hz was that absolute lower limit of me "thinking I heard something"... :(

I like big Droning speakers!

The droning has subsided, even now that I've removed the socks from the speaker ports.

I'm not 100% sure what was culprit was. Could the fact that the surrounds were dry have caused it? Maybe the way I changed their position in the room? I dunno.

Regardless of their "Kabuki" look, I would like to state that they're simply a 4-way speaker. (Which is still Kabuki-ish, I guess, but not horrible, as they seem properly matched).

Perhaps the cabinet is a bit too small for that woofer. I never understood why companies did that.

The ones I just picked up have a 15" woofer not an 18"?

I would be interested to know where the OP got these part numbers from.

Many thanks :)

Another further breakdown is about to come for these speakers, with X-over schematic and pictures. Just wait!

Spec sheet states the woofer is 410mm, which translates to just a tad over 16".

There is a minty pair of these for sale in my area, but I already have a couple of nice kabuki options in the rotation.

I'd love to compare the sound of these to a pair of Klipschorns because on paper the Technics, with the exception of efficiency, trump the K-horns.
