Technics SL-235

I just bought a serviced Technics SL-235..Didn't think about but does anyone know if I unplug the power will I be able to raise the cue and drop in to a zerodust, would I be able to do the same with a tracking force gauge, and also would I be able to use a record weight which weighs around 13 oz?

Everything on turntables is mechanical, you can manually lift and lower the tonearm regardless of the power state, Just don't do it if you activate the start/stop button. You could raise the tonearm and put it back into it's rest while a record is playing if you wanted to. Just never while it's trying to perform an automatic maneuver.

Have fun. Old Technics 'decks are great, even these belt drive ones, I'm sure you'll love it.

If you lift the tonearm and move it over, the platter will start spinning. Instead of unplugging the power, move the 33/45 speed switch to the center position and the platter will not spin. The thing about weights is they put extra pressure on the bottom of the spindle and what that bottom spins on. If you want to use the weight, be sure to lube that area. It's easy to do on those turntables. I tried a homemade 16 oz weight on my SL-230 and I did not hear a difference.
