Technics SL-5 Confusion... Help?

I've been surfing the web and doing some research just to better understand some things, and it seems that there are two turntables that look identical to me...
The
Technics SL-5 Direct Drive Automatic Linear Tracking Turntable,
and the
Technics SL-DL5 " " " " "

I happen to own the SL-5, but I want to know...
What on earth is the difference???

ALSO

Apparently back in '82 when the SL-5 was made, one could purchase a "25 cm record adapter" so that 10" records could be played on the table. Any ideas if I still might find that adapter?

The SL-DL5 is wider than the SL-5.

Is that the only difference?
Why would they do that?
Is it possible to play records larger than 12" on the DL5?
Seems to me there's no extra space in front...

Some people wanted the smaller form factor, which was a new thing at the time. Others wanted the bigger form factor.
I'm certain that the size is the only difference, but it could be.
