Got a shot at this turntable, beat him down from $80 to $50 and it's a close by local pickup deal.
Looks to be a decent deck but would love a few opinions form the folks here before I buy it.
I'm on a tight budget so if this is a decent player I want to move on it.
Thanks..........Dean

Claims to be in perfect shape with a new stylus.

Can't comment on the price, the table is an automatic.
My had a new Ortofon OM-10 cartridge, plays records well, sounds good.:thmbsp:
A typical Technics work horse, it went to a co-worker.

It's a decent turntable but for 50 bucks he should be delivering it to you. :D

You think $50 is too much?
There's not many turntables available in my area, lots more available up North in the Seattle area but that's 170 miles away from me.
Stuff on ebay has shipping and from what I've seen you don't get much for $50.
I see one on ebay right now at $47+$35 shipping with 22 hrs to go,5 bids so far.
I know collectors search around thrift shops and estate/garage sales to find cheap treasures but I need a turntable now just to get back to listening to my old vinyl as I have nothing really right now to spin them on.

edit: oh and it's hard for me to shop around living 40 miles out of the city up on a mountain.:D

I think that may be a bit of hyperbole. That price for a perfect table from a local seller is at least fair, if not a bargain. Eventually you will be like the rest of us with a half dozen yard sale buck tables in your basement, but if you need one now for that price you may be hard pressed to do any better.

He said "new stylus", do we know what cartridge is on it (the seller should if he knows the stylus is new).

Thanks,that's about how I figured it.:smoke:

50.00 bucks for a local pickup working Technics with a new sylus? Sounds like an excellent deal to me, but then again, what do I know? :dunno:

I have an e-bay SL-D303 that worked for about 3 weeks after having a hum issue fixed. It is down now and being ignored because of a speed control problem.

Given a cartridge it likes I think it can sound pretty good. It does not like my Grado Blues or my 1980s vintage ADC Integra XLM-III as these can pick up a prominent hum and a "grumbling" motor noise. The platter motor does not have the torque of the 1200 series but is adequate for home use. It can use the Technics 230mm overhang gauge for cartridge setups. For the short time when everything worked on mine it was a likable unit.

Speed control problem? On these Technics tables that's often a dirty speed control pot, easily fixed by some DeOxit cleaner.

SL-D303 for $50 locally is fine and as has been stated, is a workhorse. Don't buy one from ebay that needs to be shipped or you'll end up with a pile of junk. Sure you might find one cheaper at a thrift shop...eventually. And you might get lucky and it will be fine. But it may not have a dust cover. It may be missing other parts. I'd go for the local one.

There are 2 pots on a small circuit board inside that I cleaned and managed to get set up and working, and a fine tuning control attached to the knob that peeks out on the front control panel. Are you referring to that front panel control? This 'table will play fine for nearly an hour and then zone out, rotating at it's own chosen speed, ignoring input from the front panel speed control, and unresponsive to attempting to choose 33 or 45. When zoned out it also refuses to shut off when the tonearm is brought all the way back to it's rest. I have to use the master power button to shut it down. Admittedly I am baffled.

It is in storage because I can't get off the fence deciding if further repair attempts, especially professional, are worth it.

I've had old Technics tables that seemed to "zone out", and the problem usually was dirty electrical contacts inside - not just the usual speed control and pots. After several Deoxit baths, they worked fine.

Most people would easily spend $50 on a 'fancy dinner for two'.

While I appreciate the aspects of fine dining....

... if that Technics is in good working order, it is worth fiddy without question. That tt was probably $250 - $300 new, back in the day.

y2keglide, didn't intend to dissuade or discourage. Was only joking around, i own an SL-D303, and a few other Technics turntables. Like other members have posted, 50 bucks is fair if the turntable is clean and has no issues and with a few simple mods, it will perform like a champ :thmbsp:

I'm actually tuning that very TT right now - I also have a couple of Technics and they're great ! IF I didn't already have way to many tables, I'd buy it in a heartbeat ! But at some point you'll be just like all of the rest of us and have a closet full and you're biggest problem will be trying to sneak more STUFF in without the wife catching you - ROFL !!!
