Technics sl1900. Any opinions

Got a lead on a sl1900. Supposedly in excellent condition. Good amount asking and firm. Original manual. 70ej cart and was messaged that the stylus was no slouch. Any opinions on this table? I've got a post going on in value and all say, yes, go if it's as listed. My last 200 deal, not so well

I have a 1900 on one of my main systems. I really like it. It’s an automatic table. Need to make sure everything is in working order.

Thanks for your reply, but now a cs5000, an LS 23, and the LS 1900 are all the same price and all are suppose to be in excellent working order. I still think 200 is high, especially right now. Maybe I'll pull the trigger on one because the new ones I can afford don't lineup with what I'm looking for. If money was no object then new it would be. I just can't stand working on turntables besides the regular setup stuff.

If the Dual CS5000 is in excellent condition I don't consider 200 high for that table especially if it comes with a decent cartridge / speed is steady. Nice belt drive semi automatic with arm lift / stop at end of LP. Make sure that feature works properly.

Have not owned a SL1900 but had a SL1700 and they are nice direct drive tables. I would prob go 200 if in really clean NM condition and you prefer direct drive over belt drive plus you want full automatic operation.

I have a 1900 and it's decent. I had to redamp the cueing which is a common issue, and potentially painful to do depending on the serial number. Mine was one of the ones that required the most involved and perilous way to redamp it. The feet are another thing with these tables. They come apart and the spring and parts get lost.

The automatic functions are nice and smooth, it keeps good speed, and sounds ok. I'm not wild about the way it looks, but that's just my personal opinion, lots of people dig the Technics look.

JC I have a 1900 in use and it is a pretty good table. It does have the cuing problem, mine was easy fix. Utube video was excellent. At first I thought the price was a little high so off to Ebay and I was shocked at some of the prices people were asking. As I said I think it's a little high but it would probably best anything new up to aleast the 5 or 6 hundred range and even higher. Good luck and let us know how you do.

I leaning toward the cs5000. I don't understand some of its features, sound unusual but might be worth finding out more about it. The sl1900 is suppose to be in excellent condition though, and might be in my league, I'm not to deep into audiophile thing because of cost of being one. Was considering a denon 30L mkll for the same price as the other tt's, but he cut off communication. I'll post the one I land

I have one. They are a bit under the radar imo. Working properly, it's a very good fully automatic deck. I feel you would need to spend exponentially more on a new deck to achieve better sound.

Technics had a huge share of the market when vinyl was king. For good reason...they knew what they were doing.

4 year old thread but I'll give my opinion anyway. The 1900 is a lightweight compared to the 1300 thru 1800, both I & II series

I've owned almost all of these mid to late 70's Technics decks. I still have a 1301 in a mancave system. It's an excellent semi automatic and sounds great.

The 1900 is not as heavy, but it does have an alloy bottom that gives it some heft. It's also a fully auto tt which I appreciate more as I get older. It's prone to issues with cueing, but once addressed, the cueing works great.

I liked the 1600 MK 2 a lot, but tired of futzing with cueing on that so I let it go. It was actually a 1610...dark gray sold in europe. Just a bit over engineered...having a seperate motor for the tonearm.

I had a SL 1200, but needed at least an auto stop, so grabbed a couple of Denon decks that are manual with auto stop....DP 59L and DP 1200.

Had a Technics 2000. That was not a great deck. The 1900 smoked it.
