Technics SU 9070 preamp opinions?

Noticed one for sale locally for just under 300.00 in nice condition and read up on this model, suffice to say it is well regarded.

I currently use a Mitsubishi DA P30 , that was just over 100.00 and is certainly more than capable, very good sounding overall. As there are a good number of choices out there it can be rather time consuming trying to find a unit that is exceptional on a 500.00 maximum budget. I continue to have my eye on a Panor / Dynaco PAS 4 tube pre which is right at 500.00 wondering if it would offer more sonically but perhaps the DA P30 is more than enough.

Obviously one can easily spend into the 1000s and some fine preamps have shown up where I live but have to be content with a certain price range. Not sure if I would want to save up though as there is the point of diminishing returns with some excellent lower cost components out there. I do use a turntable as well and do like the idea of using tone controls if needed, which is a bonus in the case of the Mitsubishi although I realize the SU 9070 is a line stage, as are most of the contenders I come across. Perhaps I should be content for the low cost performance offered by the DA P30. I suppose like most it could be upgraded or modded as well.

One final note is the possibility of having the Acurus L 10 I have properly modded as well, I understand it can be made to sound exceptional, then again some basic mods to the PAS 4 appear to bring it up a few notches from what is already a well engineered and built pre.

Pretty much anything is better than the DA. The Technics will be clean and reliable, although those purple caps you see in there always leak and need replacing.

I really do not think the DA P30 is all that bad, although I only have the L 10 to compare it with so far it certainly allows the music to come through but no doubt one can find a more coherent and resolving pre. I suppose for the money one could do much worse than the Technics SU 9070. Very thoughtfully, quality design, that is obvious.

I own the SU-9070 and I'm very happy with it. Great phono section for both MM and MC carts. I recapped mine just due to its age. Built like a tank.

EDIT: Forgot to mention it has 2 sets of outputs. Direct coupled and cap coupled. I use this to feed 2 different power amps. One is the matching Technics unit and the other is my tube power amp. Lots of I/O options.
